Plenty here do use (very) expensive cables. For me personally it makes no sense beyond a certain level. I'm pretty sure the '10% system cost to be spent on cables' guide was calculated by cable manufacturers, and I wouldn't spend anywhere near that for a wire in a posh sheath (admittedly sometimes combined with a box with a resistor and capacitor or whatever). 
That said, I don't hear half the things others hear, so they may just be wasted on me....
