Will Devialet ever release new Expert features?

(22-Jun-2017, 20:14)Music or sound Wrote: Most acoustic panels are not effective below 400Hz and bass traps below 100 Hz (see data sheets). Newer products based on Helmholz resonators or  diaphragmatic sound absorbers are quite effective at low frequencies. Small rooms are more problematic and digital correction is a more feasible or cheaper but I have not heard any digital room correction that made the low frequencies sound correct as overtones are correlated to base frequencies and all are corrected differently. Also low frequencies are not uniform in the room so the correction is very limited in space (even if a spacial array of measurements is used).

I'm with Petrik here - Room Correction is fantastic and far more useful than speaker correction for me personally. Yes, in an ideal world we'd listen in studio level 'perfect' rooms, but the reality for many of us is this simply isn't possible/desirable. In those circumstances and in tricky rooms the gains are huge, eclipsing SAM type speaker corrections which would be completely lost in my room.

But anyway the DSP debate is for elsewhere. Point is, some of use would use it.

I use very few of the features - vinyl oriented ones, advanced crossovers, cinema features - none of which are of interest to me right now but I'm glad they're there for others who want them, or if I need them later on.

I was thinking about an earlier comment that Devialet made a rod for their own back with EVO. Possibly. But they also probably gained a lot of sales - few people like buying bleeding edge kit thinking it will be out if date immediately - so they allayed that fear with the EVO promise.

I was also thinking "what is impatient"? Is it expecting there might be around one new feature a year, or two a year? Or maybe one every two years? I don't think we've even had the latter.

The biggest shame is it's one of very few combined DAC/amplifiers that's so cutting edge it could actually have loads of cool features.

I hope they surprise me with something new I wasn't expecting (maybe wasn't even aware of) but can use. But something would be better than nothing - at least then I'd think theyre still putting resources into keeping the Experts cutting edge.
