I was using my Zenith as a core but 3 days before the trial period expired the search function in Roon refused to work as did the integration of Qobuz. I tried to get an answer from Roon but still waiting for a reply.
I wonder what would be the difference in using a Zenith as a core vs Devialet (Zenith as a player) both functionally and sound wise?
I have tried the Innuos as a core and player connected to an Expert CI with USB vs. Roon Air and the Innuos only as core vs. the Innuos as a squeezelite player connected with USB. Then I switched back with ROON 1.6 to my MacMini and tried this with ROON RAAT. Finally I have sold the Innuos, because I first decided to go with ROON and I had problems with 1.6 and the Innuos as a core. To use the Innuos only as a player is an expensive solution. I have bought a NUC 8i3 and installed Roon Rock - as a core it is much better than the INNUOS - very fast, less problems. Yes, there a little sound differences between Innuos Roon USB - Innuos SL USB - ROON AIR - ROON RAAT, but in my opinion, they are not very big and for some people it might be not a question of SQ, but a question of taste. And in comparison it’s a lot of money for relative less difference and a lack of ROON functionality . So the question is - is it more useful to spend the money in speakers or a second Expert, or even a dedicated Roon player ? Separated devices have the advantage, that it is possible to replace each device separately. But I would go with the Innuos, if I wouldn’t go with ROON, because the Devialet Air problems, I would use the Innuos as a SL player with USB connection. But this would be only a single device solution. I need a network solution, with many endpoints...
