I think there are 3 things which affect the quality.cleanness of power reaching components in an audio system:
1- the cleanness of the power reaching your home from the grid. That can vary considerably because of a number of factors including distance from the generator and substation and the other power users connected to the same line on the grid and the amount of power they're drawing which can vary considerably depending on time of day.
2- the other devices apart from the audio system in use within your home and how isolated they are from the audio system. Things like electric motors in refrigerators and air conditioning systems can have a considerable effect, as can whether those things are on separate circuits to your audio system or whether they're on the same system.
3- the power supplies in the various components of your audio system.
Putting your audio system on a separate circuit to everything else can help a lot, even without power conditioning, simply because it provides a degree of isolation for the audio system from the other devices in the house.
@bernardl - I'm told that the quality of power here in suburban Brisbane while not outstanding is also not as bad as it is in some other locations. My system is on a separate circuit from my mains board. I use a P12 power plant and Shunyata power cables and they make a similar difference in my system to what you report in yours. Maybe we're both trying to convince ourselves of the same thing, who can tell. It's either a case of great minds thinking alike or fools never differing :-) I'll let others make up their own minds on that but I wouldn't like to be without a good power conditioner and good power cables.
