Turntable disappointment, what did I do wrong?

Hi everyone!

I am a happy owner of a pair of Devialet Phantom Premier Gold, set up as a stereo pair (DOS2)

Inspired by others who were happily rediscovering their vinyl collection with their phantom, I wanted to try the same.

After a long time reading reviews, I decided to go for 

Phono : Rega Planar 3, with an Exact 3 cartridge.

The set up of the preamp is as recommended by the dealer for my cartridge : Loading Ω :47k, loading pF 100, Gain Db 45.

The toslink is brand new, connected to one of my phantom.


Issue : 
The sound is very muffled, and I need to push the Devialet volume all the way up to 75 (!!) to hear something.

I did try to connect my TV output to my phantom, and it works ok, so no problem on the receiving end of my Phantom.

What did I do wrong? I am really not an expert in analog sound system... Did I chose the wrong turntable/phono box? Did I misunderstand something?

No shop will open until Monday... I just need to deal with the Christmas disappointment unless someone has a great idea?

Try higher gain. The output signal from the RIAA is lower than the other input signals, such as your TV.

Thanks for your reply. I did try that, but even if it raises the volume slightly but the sound remains super muffled, even a bit saturated whilst being muffled (I know it sounds weird...)
