Turntable disappointment, what did I do wrong?

Hi ,
Sorry for the dumb questions.
Did you mess with all configuration on the phono?
Maybe your missing something.
Did you try to change cables?rca&optic?
Maybe you have a generic rca to optical converter just to bypass the optic output for testing.
Im using the puffin phono so i dont familiar with the Rega options.

The phono is pretty straightforward... no settings to play with. 
The phono has RCA cables as outputs, so I can not change it.
I did try a different optical cable.

But I will follow your recommendations and try to use a RCA/optical converter, using the RCA output of the preamp. Won’t be able to try before shops open next week...
