I don't think that you do have to give up SAM. Devialet's suggestion, from some years ago now, was to set the subwoofer to a very low frequency and go from there. If the result is clearly weird, the phase on the subwoofer should be inverted.
I have a 1000 Pro and am wondering how to connect a REL subwoofer using the high-level approach. I think that the red and yellow wires go to the positive terminals of the bridged amplifiers while the black is initially not connected. If there is a hum problem, then the black is earthed to the chassis.
Correct?
