IMHO you did nothing wrong. Devialet advertised the Phantoms to be able to play at 100% volume with no distortion. They never explained such a limitation of sustained high volume use.
Sounds like these are brand new so I’m sure you’ll be covered under warranty unless they find some damage due to external factors.
For reference, I have a pair of Silvers since 1995 and have put them through their paces without issue.
