Best why to connect phantoms to Roon
#1
Hi,
What's the best why to connect phantoms to roon?
Im currently using mini pc with roon sending signal to cubox/optical with roon to phantoms.
I dont like the sound of the optical wire outpost.
And roon dont support upnp.

What r my choices here?and dont suggest air play.

Only thing left is to wait for the mythical RAAT.

P/s I rate optical input poorer than UPnP and the lack of UPnP on Roon was one of the reasons why I never took it up.

Hi
it's quite obvious that RAAT would be the most elegant solution for Phantoms+Roon, but as RAAT is (still) not available for Phantoms I will again suggest the Mutec MC-3+USB. Inserted after your Cubox (using USB?) and re-clocked optical from Mutec to Phantom will certainly improve sound quality. I suspect using the Cubox alone is limiting the quality you get today so a cheaper solution (than Mutec) might be a Raspberry Pi 4 and RoPieee with one of the optical HATs, but I think the Mutec solution would sound best.

And roon dont support upnp.

Perhaps a UPNP bridge such as the iFi bridge could be a solution.
Check out iFi bridge application for more details.

It is, but it was offered as an example of a potential solution, not 'the' solution.
A quick browse offers up other similar solutions such as this discussion.

Hi Guys,
I managed to connect the Roon to ifi bridge.
I dont hear any great sound improvement vis upnp.
And sometimes the audio just stop with no reason .wifi connection is super stable at my house.

Im thinking of buying the node 2i streamer...
And i wanted to now if its a roon ready hardware and il still be using upnp to phantoms.
Another thing is that the i2 have a internal Dac how is it gone effect the phantoms Dac?

Thanks!

Bluesound devices do not support UPnP either. And you will feed the Phantom via optical, so will bypass the Node 2i internal DAC.

The possibilities of expanding the setup is really hard with this lack of inpus ):
We have optical eth only that s bummer...

There is a way with Logitech Media  Server and UPnP but i have never tried it.

Even when RAAT comes (one day!), it may not be superior. There are still Expert Pro users who prefer Airplay to RAAT.
