In my system/network...this beta version seems better in WIFI Signal range than any previous version.

Thank You Devialet. Keep improving it.

I sent a query to Devialet asking if the beta versions have any impact on sound quality, their response as follows:

'The engineers only touch the part to improve stability of network, it won't affect the sound quality, don't worry."

It is funny that they say "don't worry" they assumed you are questioning if there will be a negative impact on SQ whereas I take it you were inquiring whether it will bring additional SQ improvement or not.

My query word for word:

"Firstly, thanks for this, and yes, I am more than happy to try this Beta version of AIR and report back any observations.

I have one question.  Obviously the Beta versions are revised with the aim of solving the white noise issue, however, do these revisions to AIR in anyway influence sound quality?"

So, Devialet obviously think AIR is perfect, therefore any queries regarding changes to sound quality must be written by people worrying that it might get worse!

With all due respect to Devialet people, I think they are living in their own bubble.

But hey I'm still optimistic that within their bubble they will find something for us

If users do not think that the sound quality of AIR is better than any other input, why are they all so worried about the white noise issue and it not working? Surely if USB or any of the others are better would one be better using those and forgetting AIR.

Makes senses!and that is actually what I did. So I Seldom use Air and almost totally relying on my USB and digital coax connections. And in my system Aurender >> USB >> Devialet sounds better than Air both ethernet and WiFi.

I guess why we may still want Air to work as advertised is the convenience and power of using our computers and laptops

That seems perfectly reasonable - and indeed expected - from an engineering point of view, if you subscribe to the "bits are bits" way of thinking (as I tend toward myself).

Devialet have engineered AIR to deliver a bit-perfect copy of its input to the amplifier.  Provided the changes they make don't interfere with that, I can't see how they could change the sound quality.  Timing should not be an issue because of the large buffer on the amplifier - at least, not up to the point where a drop-out occurs and the defect is obviously audible.

One thing that interests me is that there are no firmware updates to accompany the new beta version of AIR.  That suggests to me that they have not changed the protocol AIR uses to talk to the amplifier.  So it's interesting that they're talking about network stability.  My money would rather be on sorting out bugs/peculiarities specific to the Windows environment that might result in AIR transmitting obviously incorrect data to the amplifier.

Anyway, I suppose it's all a bit academic until there's some evidence that the dreaded white noise has been banished. I wish you luck trying it - fingers crossed!
