Connecting a record player

I'm looking for a Phono Stage doing A / D converter which also works as a pre-amp for my Beyerdynamic TP5 headphones allowing me to plug my turntable on my Gold Phantoms. I'm ready to spent around €500 ($600) or slightly more if it's worth the investment.

As of now, reading several topics on this forum, I'm tempted by the "Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital" but reviews are only ok / good.

Would that be the right purchase for my budget or something else in mind?

I am using a setup that is no longer sold, but you might get it pre-owned at a good price. I like the Musical Fidelity Merlin, it is kind of a jack of all trades. Very versatile box with lots of input and output options.

Innuos Zen Mini MK3 -> (Ethernet / Audioquest Optical) -> Dialog & 2x White Phantom
Pro-Ject Carbon Debut Esprit Turntable with Ortofon Red -> (Cinch/RCA) Musical Fidelity Merlin -> (AudioQuest Optical) to Phantom
Master & Dynamics MH40, Audeze Sine, AudioQuest Dragonfly Red; Remote Control via macOS and iOS devices (Devialet App / Innuos Sense /iPeng / Audirvāna Studio)

I am as well still struggling to find out how to best connect a turntable into my phantoms/dialog.

I am testing the ADL Stratos from Furutech but realized the optical out is only available when there is a digital in signal. Some posts are mentioning a computer could be used to trick the ADL and then still have the optical out functioning when connecting a phono. Could anyone describe how they succeeded with this method in more details?

Then we have the NuWave Phono Convertor. https://www.psaudio.com/products/nuwave-...converter/
No Toslink opticcal out but I suppose a coaxial SPDIF to Toslink converter (https://www.amazon.com/Coaxial-Toslink-D...B0788GBJHD) could work. I suppose there is no loss in quality because it is a simple media converter (digital to digital). Could anyone please confirm this?

Finally I was looking at beis.de kits and found out that Uwe has recently partnered with a few other HiFi enthusiasts to produce a nice box based on his AD24QS kits.

This could probably do the trick. It even has a headphone amp. Has anyone tried it out?

Thanks a lot for the feedback I could already read on this forum. Very interesting.

Thanks indeed. Great piece of equipment

Unfortunately, this option would require a phono preamp in my case.

The Adicon has this built in plus the headphone amp. I think I will give it a try and report back on this forum.

Anyone suggested the M2Tech Joplin mkii ?

All it does is ADC and a ridiculously good and flexible phono stage - and all in one box with a super cool VU meter to stare at!

I have one it’s most excellent
