Ethernet cable upgrade
#61
the shield is for for industry use, when you've got a cable tray installed with hundreds of data streams, 3 phase electrical systems, BM/fire detection systems etc etc and also to shield them from each pair inside.

Interesting reading, thanks.
But you don’t think that this shielding will help in a Hi-Fi environment?
Shielding of the twisted pairs will help eliminate crosstalk and the rejection of EMI/RFI.

Shielding is shielding once done there's nothing left to do... the basics of construction simply need to be this with good/copper conductors, sockets and plugs. The data rates are not important once beyond 5e. The Postta cables i linked to earlier have all the spec and tech required to make the perfect connection.

Hi, in today's time where the technical equipment (mobile phone, WiFi, etc.) the disturbing influence is getting bigger, a good shielding of the cables is essential. The influence on the sound (analog or digital) is even detectable! With digital increases the jitter, with analogously hissing etc. What else contributes to capture interference, is the mixing of different ETH cables, due to materials copper, aluminum different cross sections, etc. In the web, there are enough essays!

In this matter I think it should be a break even, beyond which there is no longer any practical result.
So, I think that a good research may be worthwhile but not an exaggerated spent of money on a cable that just guarantees us that it has everything to... not be bad.
Much of this behaviour comes from our experience with speaker cables, interconnects and other analog, and now the story is different.

I comes from a neurosis in the hobby that hi-end/audio cable manufacturers marketing feeds from.

Hello cereal killer, just take the cable that suits you best! I gave up on hi-fi testing years ago (what is the magazine living on)? Big Grin Did my own tests, in cooperation with my dealer. Have not regretted it today!

No need to get skanked by audiofoo, these are perfect.

Doesn’t get great reviews on Amazon that....

Why base an opinion on reviews, especially with no context?

I have no opinion on the respective merits of different Ethernet cables in terms of sound quality.

I was just pointing out that the cables don’t appear to be very robust, based on the review comments.
