Expert Pro 440: Problem connecting Companion

I wasn´t aware it could be used as a standalone amplifier? I thought it was different from the Master? I´ll try this. I´ve tried two different coaxial cables to link the units.

These are digital RCA cables (not analog), right?

Still haven´t heard anything from Devialet, despite having sent multiple e-mails....

I'm new to using the Devialet. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours setting up the 440 Pro Dual. I have the master and companion connected via RCA only. I have a Mac Mini connected to the master via USB, an Eversolo DMP-A8 via RCA, and a subwoofer connected to the companion via RCA. After a few restarts and a restart by unplugging the master and companion and waiting 30 seconds, everything worked fine! I only noticed that I have to turn the volume up quite a bit—from -10 to -6—for normal listening. It might be related to the input level attenuation; I'll post a new message about it.

Update:

I finally reached Devialet, through Whats App (!), although this I guess is only partly true since the answer was "Generated by AI". The answer I got referred to the basics; i.e. format SD card->create new config. I disconnected the power cords and formatted, created config and downloaded. I then inserted the SD cards before replugging the power cords. The config loaded on both units, the Master window saying "November 2025" (the name I´d given the configuration) and the Companion window saying "S1 CONFIG".

I really don´t know why the Companion suddenly works... Is it beacuse

1. It´s been powerless for a week or so
2. I unplugged the power cords before inserting the SD cards (although I´ve tried this before)
3. I "manually" added .txt to the configuration files names (but this is usually done automatically when it´s a text file and you press save?)
4. I excluded some step in the Configurator (I´ve previously turned off some inputs that I don´t use, e.g. "Optical")

The cable between the units is the same that I´ve used before.

All I can say is that it immediately struck me how much better it sounds than when I could only use one of them (220 vs 440)

Feel free to comment!

Best regards,
Mikael

Are you happy with the 440?

Happens to my Expert 400 as well, sometimes I change config on the slave and it takes a few times of deleting old config and saving the config to SD Card and reboot for it to work. The first time, it will almost always fail to read the SD, sometimes saying config error, sometimes saying SD card error. After a few times of deleting old config and saving new config, then suddenly it will work on reboot.

Thanks for the feedback. I can´t believe they haven´t fixed these bugs during such a long period of time... I´ve never come across a company being so ignorant of their customers...
