Is the Phantom still bad for a home theater?

You can use Dante adaptors/connectors with existing Reactors to do the same thing. This thread says Phantom Premier in its title, but equally applies to the Reactor

njaiswal is the guru and owns more than most Devialet dealers with 10 Premier and 7 Reactors!!!

More info on the custom Reactors here.

This is so interesting, but seems so prohibitively and unnecessarily expensive and inaccessible.

Why can’t I just buy the Reactor Custom directly? How much are they?
Why can’t I buy the Dante dongle directly?
Is there a device that takes an HDMI input and then outputs the discrete channels over dante? And is there a way to send the .1 sub channel to the regular outs so the bass isn’t missing?

I’d like to play around with Dante. Can anyone recommend a straight forward twin channel balanced analogue Dante output device?

I’ve found a 2 in and a 2 out adaptor for around £100 each. Looking forward to playing with these.

Shame Dante can’t distribute video in the same way!

And it turns out they can. Dante AV. Man, I need to catch up with this stuff.

The AVIO products are for one end. Use these for outputs
https://www.audinate.com/products/dante-...d/auvitran

Can be sourced from Devialet by emailing
professional@devialet.com
Same email to buy the custom Reactors.

You also need a prepro to feed the setup. Ideally get one with XLR outputs e.g. Anthem AVM 60.

I was going to use these for outputs to a pair of powered monitors I have:

And then the virtual sound card with a Mac just to figure out how it works.

Unless you can output the Mac virtual sound card as individual multi channel analog signals, it will not work with the AVIO adaptor that you listed. There is a USB version of the AVIO adaptor but it is for stereo only.

To do multi channel, you need analog output from an AV processor (sorry no HDMI) and use that AVIO adaptor.

Use the following diagram as a starting point.

Setting up a Dante enabled home theatre is not difficult, but requires reading up.  All the necessary bits are listed in the diagram.

For the moment I’m just trying to get anything working to understand it better.

As I understood it, I need a source - which can be a virtual sound card on a computer. Then I need an output to connect it to, like these AVIO things, and then I can connect it to my analogue speakers? I also need PoE injectors to power them.

For just getting eg a stereo output out of my Mac this should work fine. Right? What am I missing? I don’t need to decode AC3 yet.

It might also be useful to have the free Dante controller software to configure the AVIO devices.

Sorry, I thought you wanted to try multi channel from a standard Mac virtual sound card.

To do what you want requires Dante Virtual Sound card and Controller from here

https://www.audinate.com/products/software

At the other end, need a converter like AVIO adaptor to convert Ethernet to an Analog signal before feeding that to an amplifier and then to the speakers. And yes, you will need a PoE injector or a switch with PoE.  There are adaptors which are dual powered using PoE or a DC power supply but they tend to be more expensive.
