Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support??

Here is an email I received from Dr AIX, one of the very few gentleman who records in real high res and admits there's no discernible difference between high res and red book for the consumer.

The last time I checked this the percentage of those who detected a difference was just under 70%. Mr Waldrep also supports his views with the firmly debunked A-D-A loop test by Meyer and Moran from some years ago. Not reassuring in my view.
I do not think that 16bit or 44.1kHz sounds bad. I've got lots of CD rips. But I believe that early downconversion from 24/xxkHz to 16/44.1 sounded worse than it does now. Mr. Waldrep's research doesn't convince me and I do not think @rsemedo has been ripped off.

It seems like new units from Devialet does max out at 96kHz on optical. I think this could possibly be linked to parts supply.  The receiver part that can handle 192kHz is from a different supplier AFAIK. The toslink spec is max 96kHz, but 192kHz is possible if the right part is used. As I said earlier in the thread, optical 1 on my 250 worked at 192kHz, but optical 2 stopped at 96kHz. If the192kHz part is not available at the moment Devialet has no choice - or Devialet has decided that 96kHz is good enough and uses the part that is easiest to get.

In my case, it actually plays 192/24 files for a while but then stops and gives "no cable detected" message...but I'm talking Phantom Gold not the standalone DACs...

I see. What happens if you let Roon down sample this file to 96kHz? Does it play through with no errors?

Other posts here imply that they can do this through optical so either your Golds are faulty or something is different in the format you are playing - you don't say as far as I can see what type of files you are playing at this resolution - anything unusual or with some wrapper around them?

I'm using FLAC files with Roon like the user above...my Roon End Point is the Primare NP5, but I used others with the same result... :-(

I‘m using Roon to two Raspberry Pi endpoints that are optical cable connected to two sets of Phantoms, I.e. two rooms in Spark. I did still not update to DOS2 as the Gold Phantoms and the third Silver Phantom work well for simultaneously play 24/192k in two rooms. The RPis are even WiFi connected in the network to a Roon Rock NUC that is wired connected to the router. All Phantoms use the internal PLC. All as promised by Devialet in terms of Specs. I think most people have rather network problems than anything else when using Phantoms. Exception is only the optical input from the Dialog that many years ago Devialet downgraded from 24/192k to 24/96k due to probably hw problems. But we need to acknowledge that the optical SPDIF originally was specified for 24/96k and only very careful design allows also a higher sampling frequency reproduction. Whether DOS2 is inferior to DOS1 I cannot say, but the Phantom hardware has no problems playing 24/192k. I‘m mostly using ALAC instead of FLAG as in the beginning Spark was much more performant with Apples FLAG version. But since Roon I do not use Spark anymore and for Roon any of the hires formats perform equally well in my experience.

My D-Premier worked fine with 24/192 but when I had the first updated to a 250 it no longer did. It was explained that 24/96 is the maximum guaranteed speed for toslink but some receivers are better than others.
Devialet hand picked a toslink receiver that worked with 24/192 and fitted it to my second updated unit (I had 2 D-Premiers and updated them one at a time, partly so I wasn't without one and partly so I could compare original and update).
The spec of toslink is 24/96 and one may be lucky and get a unit that goes to 24/192 but it is not that likely.

I don't hear any difference between 16/44.1 and higher resolutions of the same master.
In fact there is no reason why I should, none of the music I listen to has a greater dynamic range than 16-bit and I can only hear to 14kHz so replay cleanly up to 20kHz is plenty for me too.
I actually still enjoy most of my LPs and they are nowhere near 16 bit (more like 11-bit)

Deviatet website (https://www.devialet.com/en-au/buy-gold-phantom/) clearly states the spec is supported and I'm sure there are dozens of people in this forum paying HiRed (192/24) tracks via Toslink, so I'm completely flabbergasted with this answer and unsure what to do anymore...should I reach out to a different Support (Frensh) or something, I hear different countries have a different quality of support, etc...I need help community....I love my Phantom Gold but it has been too painful just to listen to music.... Undecided

I also found that Phantom could not apply 24/192 with optical input.  
Sometimes there is a sound, but it often breaks off.  
Then, the connection to the optical cable is not found, but eventually the connection is lost.  It's a very unfortunate part.  
Isn't it technically insufficient not to support the high-end speaker 24/192?  
It also supports cheaper products. 
I am South korean.

I think Devialet has tried to clean up their web removing all references to 24/192 for Toslink. I fear 24/96 will be the new spec for Toslink. On Reactors too... maybe even new Expert amplifiers....

Anyone with Audirvana here? Is it stable with 24/192 material?
