I would say that having a three-year old product that has, or will be, upgraded twice is innovative, absolutely. Cost of the upgrade completely aside, I can't think of any other company that has produced a line of products that are all upgradeable. Ask Von Schweikert or Sonore or JL Audio if they will be offering upgrades for their past products in three years.

Even if it is 'only' design optimization, that too represents years of design and prototypes and testing; remarkable especially for a company that clearly has some organizational challenges. And yes, communication clarity is not among their strengths.

And finally, I'd say that the Devialet has clearly inspired imitation (or any term of flattery) products. Again, more so than any other audio product I can think of. No doubt many of these products are excellent, but without a doubt, they are following in the path cleared by Devialet. Sounds and looks and feels and smells like innovation to me.

But to the upgrade details (thread topic), I am interested and curious, certainly, but I bought a D120 rather than a D200, because the extra cost did not buy anything I needed or wanted- sound quality included. So I'll be interested to see what falls out when they shake the upgrade tree, but like Womaz and others, I'm still in love with the sound I have.

I concur, especially with the final point made regarding the D120.  Although I suspected you were referring to the firmware updates as one of the upgrades, strictly speaking of hardware upgrades, it appears that the D-Premier was eligible in 2013.  That being the case two hardware upgrades would also have suited your point regarding the 3 year time frame.

Hi Danny,

Welcome to the forum!

Could you give us a run down of your system, please? It's nice for us to see what our fellow "chatters" have! Or maybe get a signature sorted out from your user control panel?

Cheers,

Alex.
I do understand that especially the 120 user base needs some "incentive" to further invest into Devialet. In the last upgrade they just went from 110 to 120 (which is very little) - whereas others got a reasonable power added. Though if the upgrade costs is really about EUR 3.000 that is still a really lot - on the other hand a 240pro would provide some value for the future too.
I'm not 100% sure I will be upgrading my 120, for that amount of money. For much less than that price, I'm sure I can get a very high quality streamer with probably more functionality, and faster updates when new technologies become available. The extra power would be welcome of course. But unless your playing in quite a big room, at high levels, or with inefficient speakers - I think the 120 will more than suffice.

When are the new models expected to be officially announced ?
If they exchange the whole electronics inside the Dxxx by upgrading it to a Dxxx PRO I wonder if they will send it back to the owner or throw a fully working amplifier without case in the garbage.?
It would be great to see them do something like Linn and allow you to recase the old parts (in a cheaper case) to reuse them. That could then be used elsewhere or sold to help fund the upgrade. Throwing away state of the art electronics seems crazy and environmentally irresponsible.

I am not aware of any D-Premier owners that recieved any of their old amplifier innards back when upgrading to the current spec.  Is there any reason to think it will be any different this time?

I would imagine that in 2017 there will be many French refuse collectors with very trick fully active multi-amplifier hifi systems.
I think they will reuse them for the 130pro.
Concerning upgrade of the 120 to the 240pro - it has to provide exceptional added value to make this a resonable investment. As you mentioned EUR 3.000 is big money and there are a lot of manufacturers out there that offer hardware that along with the existing 120 will enable a great HiFi experience. Yet, if the "price / performance ratio" is attractive I think a good number of customers will go that route ... of course the disappointments so far (like hardly any working AIR and other bugs) must be solved and there needs to be a new "framework / environment" like the new OS that is a solid base for future developments.
I do think, the ownership of these used parts should stay by the owner of the amp who has paid for it.
So I could build my own (probably ugly - caused by the self-made wooden case) multi- channel amp for my garage Cool
Does anybody already have rough timeline information on further communication from Devialet on the upgrade process and pricing

Do also think Herman´s commment "ownership of these used parts should stay by the owner of the amp who has paid for it" is very valid

Thanks
