Good afternoon Devi,

Apologies for not getting back to you on Twitter, it's been a busy few weeks and we've been doing a lot of these demos! Honestly we've not had much ourselves to sit and listen to the new amplifiers in between demos. Quite a few forum members have been to the store recently for demos between 120/220 or 200/220 and so far everyone has found the new range to be more open, more detailed and to have greater depth, control and speed of bass.

I am heading out with a 220 now to drop it off on my way home and I've even had to bring my own amp to work to do comparison demos...

Did you want to try and make it in to the store to hear the 120 vs 220 through some Martin Logans?

Kind regards

For anyone interested in listening to a 400 vs 440, we finally received our 220 companion on Monday. It's been left playing since to try and get some miles under its belt before we do any serious demonstrations.

I think the upgrade is great but:
- Don't know what to expect from the streamer, there is no 'value' for me now if I don't know what to expect in the future. I need details from Devialet on this.
- The better specs will have an impact for sure in AB testing, but is is worth the extra investment? probably it is when it's the 'weakest' part of your system, where the single benefit to get is from some better specs. For me at this point the budget for better 'sound' would go to an upgrade of my loudspeakers from 804 D2 to 803 D3 instead of 400 tot 440pro...

I'm curious of the AB testing and as soon as I can test it in NL I will do this, but for now I'm REALY happy with the setup and can not imagine how it could go better...

Dear Ali,
Thanks for Your friendly reply. I really would like to visit Your shop but as I live in south Germany the was will be a bit too far.

Best wishes

Equally, the key issue for me is that if I don't upgrade my 400's where does it leave me? When will the software versions stop supporting my 400? Are they going to be very hard to sell if I try to move them on as buyers may think they are obsolete?

They really have done this whole upgrade thing back-to-front. When I think about how Linn did the Radikal for the LP12, they gave a few demos to the top dealers who did customer open days where people got excited, posted on forums etc. Then they did a tour around the UK dealer network over a month or so when more people got to hear it and orders rose to a very high level. No gamble, we all heard what the difference was over a Lingo/Hercules etc and were happy to pay.

This is just the opposite, they obviously just assumed all users would blindly update without demos, which as per this forum is not going to happen.

I am living in apartment since few years and it will continue until i buy a new house. For that reason i cannot listen to D200 too loud and oh, boys, it sounds delicious when loud! But at low volumes it sounds lifeless.
So i am interested in knowing how the new 200Pro copes with that (new ADH is higher resolution now?)?

Cheers,

Hi Maxijazz
Same problem for me. I listened to the d220 pro at the Devialet headquarters. It sounds much livelier at low volumes. The notes the instuments are easier to hear, and the overall blending re@ mains.
And the higher you move into the models, the more obvious.
Cheers

Similar here - proximity to reasonably sensitive speakers, neighbours, giving my ears some TLC, and now a baby, all mean the volume doesn't get pumped anywhere near where I'd like it.
