1971—almost my misspent youth. I turned 24 in 1971. I don't think MBL was around then but the Ohm's back then were exotic enough to rate as hi fi porn of some kind :-)
Duevel is a lot more obtainable than MBL when it comes to price and they have a range of options. German Physiks is also more affordable than MBL but I think are more expensive than Duevel. I think Larsen make some omnis. In the US Shahininian make a range of speakers that, if not really omni, use the idea of reflections off a wide range of room surfaces as part of their design. There's the small Davone Mojo I mentioned.
Then there's other sorts of speakers that rely on wide radiation front and back such as electrostatics and some other panel speaker designs, and speakers with tweeters and sometimes mids also on the back panel so they fire to the rear as well as on the front panel. They aren't true omnis but they do rely on the room a lot more than normal speakers.
