Is the Phantom still bad for a home theater?

Unless you can output the Mac virtual sound card as individual multi channel analog signals, it will not work with the AVIO adaptor that you listed. There is a USB version of the AVIO adaptor but it is for stereo only.

To do multi channel, you need analog output from an AV processor (sorry no HDMI) and use that AVIO adaptor.

Setting up a Dante enabled home theatre is not difficult, but requires reading up.  All the necessary bits are listed in the diagram.
