AQVox AQ-SWITCH-8
#1
As some of you know already I have ordered one of these.

The idea is to compare it against my current reference, the Paul Pang audiophile switch with MCRU LPS. The Paul Pang cost considerably less I should add, although probably about the same as the AQVox once one includes the power supply.

First impressions are already a bit meh TBH. I've had some correspondence with them regarding their "15 quid" D-Link wall wart asking if there are other options. There response is that a decent LPS will degrade the sound quality of this unit, confirmed by the review below (use Google Translate pls):

http://www.hifistatement.net/tests/item/...mitstart=0

I wanted to know if there were other options since the power supply only currently ships in Schuko version and I am wired with NEMA sockets here, although I do have a few UK ones on dedicated spurs too. I also expressed some of my reservations considering the use of the wall wart.

Their response was:

"Some Info:
We have been designing electronics and powersupplies for 30 years now.
http://www.aqvox.com/profil.html
Some of the worlds best microphone manufacturers use our micamp for development.
http://www.aqvox.com/referenz.html

We introduced the first audiophile fully balanced, dual-DAC, segregated Class-A output USB-DAC and
in 2006 worlds first audio-optimized USB-cables."

They have said that they have ordered adapters like these ones:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EU-Euro-Europe-t...Sw7NNUKQqg

As you can imagine this doesn't play too well with my power OCD.  Confused

Any way I am going into this with an open mind and will report back my impressions when the unit arrives.

Isn't the AQVox the exact reverse of Oppo/Lexicon?  The AQVox is (possibly) a wolf in sheep's clothing, whereas the Lexicon is more of a sheep trying to disguise itself as a wolf.  (No offence to Oppo owners!  They are mighty fine products.)

This kind of stuff happens more than you might think.  I believe much of the innards of the £2K + krell Connect are shared with the Pioneer N50, for example.  Cambridge Audio Blu Ray players and Oppo's have shared innards for a number of years now.

However, if the AQVox lives up to it's claims, then it should be something special in a very ordinary box, which is fine by me.

Hello, I have been using a Cisco Switch with switching power supply for about 1 year. Recently, the power supply made noise, then I exchanged the power supply against a normal analog power supply with elaborate voltage stabilization and buffering! See, the leap forward was enormous. Perhaps only the exchange of the power supply also takes place with other switch the desired one takes place Rolleyes

Not yet! I believe it has arrived in the UK though so I expect sometime next week. Will definitely post my impressions once it has bedded in.

What do you think about the PSU? Is it just BS that it sounds the best with the "upgraded" switchmode PSU? If they wrote what linear PSU they have tried it would atleast tell us if it only was crappy ones.

Dont know if this test has been up before.
