It's the Transparent Reference XL 75 ohm SPDIF:

Have you ever thought of trying the Transparent with a SPDIF to AES/EBU adaptor?  I guess that this might sound fairly horrific to one with purist instincts, but you never know?

Eeeek!   Blush

I think I'd rather try the Audioprana cable and compare it to my TA cable. The trouble is I really don't want to pay for it!

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but it seems wrong somehow to mix 110 & 75 Ohm cable specs together! If it sounds good though, and no-one gets hurt, then who cares I guess.

I put mine on my Hager-Tech Frykleaner for three days before using it.

I guess the resulting SQ was much better then!?
I used my Crystal cable between my Oppo player and Dev for + 1000 hours, and I can't say it made  much difference from the initial SQ. Compared to the RCA-AES/EBU solution it not on the same level. My own RCA-RCA construction is still better than the Crystal.

Maybe a cooker is the answer to break it?

Mike,

How do you change the configuration for the RCA-AES/EBU connection between master and slave?

I did not see how to do that in the configuration facility.

I did not see how to do that in the configuration facility.

In the Configurator you just disable sharing input on ur slave then click on the AES/EBU of the slave unit which should then show a graphical line joining the RCA of the master with the AES/EBU of the slave unit

Answered above I see! All the best with the AES/EBU input, well worth going that route.

I've got a new Audioprana RCA to AES/EBU cable that I'm going to be listing later today on the For Sale section if anyone is interested. It's only a week old and unfortunately just wasn't for me. It definitely sounds good and warms things up but I am one of the few here that actually likes the stock Crystal better....stock seems to be more lively with my speakers. Just not wanting more warmth in my system with my current set up.

Hi all - A quick question, I did read through the entire thread ( twice ). Recently got a companion for my 200. Used the standard RCA-RCA digital link at first. Week later added a HOSA RCA to XLR male and thus using the RCA to XLR connection now. Honestly did not A/B the two, it sounds very good regardless, I am planning on leaving the RCA/XLR in place. I do not want to spend alot of time tweaking, but really just want to get this setup and then forgotten other than for enjoying music playback.

That being said, I do have my dark side, and so the question for those who have tried variations on the RCA->XLR connection, how much if any better mileage would I get with something such as the Cabledyne RCA-XLR silver link cable, or other 3rd party cable, versus just using the stock RCA cable supplied with the Devialet companion paired with the Hosa RCA/XLR adapter?

And as a reference check, I have the Devialet 400 with DH Labs Q-10 Signature speaker cables, one Regen, one generic PC laptop running Windows 10 and RoonServer, and a Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One 5.0 into which all the power cords are plugged.

Over time that laptop will be swapped out. Don't anticipate changing anything else, other then hooking up the turntable shortly.

Thanks in advance.

I recently played with three master-slave setups while troubleshooting a problem with my system: stock Crystal RCA-RCA digital cable with Cardas RCA/XLR adapter; 2m Cabledyne RCA-XLR reference silver digital cable; 1m Audioprana RCA-XLR reference silver digital cable with exotic hardwood connectors.
I didn't spend a lot of time listening for differences as it wasn't my intent but the differences in my system and to my ears were as follows: the Crystal with Cardas adapter was an improvement over the RCA-RCA connection, but I still found it on the thin side with a tilted up sonic picture; the Cabledyne is extremely fast with a very nicely balanced presentation top to bottom, but in some systems may tend to forward and on the bright side; the Audioprana has a very analog sounding presentation that is very forgiving and eminently musical.
My preference may ultimately be for the Audioprana, but I have to critically compare the Cabledyne to it. My concern is that I may be loosing some detail with the Audioprana, but it is very musical and involving at first blush.

By the end of September I will be in a position to compare these two cables.

MusicFirst - Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply, I appreciate it.

I am going to settle in with the stock Crystal cable paired with a Hosa RCA/XLR adapter for now, and give it a little time till my ears acclimate before trying something different. I would be interested in trying the Cabledyne, but unlike their other cables, this one cannot be returned as they consider it s custom order. Looking forward yo your further thoughts later this year.
