To the ones who went to this presentation:
Did you get any news regarding the upgrade for the D250 owners ? In term of pricing and delays ?
Regards

Do you
really?
New machine but no firmware ready, I wouldn't have expected anything else
I really agree with Guillaume, and thought the explanation given from Devialet sounded like PR BS at best. How many years did the OdA take to make it to release? Then they just 'upped' the R&D a tad, and out popped a whole new line a few months later. Well, except the streamer board and OS which could be a year away. Mmmmm...
Appart from the Cooper base, the ODA is a 1000Pro limited edition, and both are getting a streaming board next year.
What is the best option sound wise: copper plated or full copper?
Disappointing that the DAC is no different to the expert series. IMO the amplification of the Devialet is it's strong suit, but the DAC is a weak point. Surely there have been SQ improvements to make in that area?

The 1000 Pro has a brand new 4000W peak power supply. My guess is that this will play a key role in the improved performance over the O d'A.
I must say even the streamer board coming next year doesn't sound right either, they've had how long to sort out a new network board since the original Duet board?! Especially with all the issues surrounding AIR and requests for a simplified UPnP offering.
I remember a few months ago when all the rumours were circulating re the new 1000 model some of us actually thought that the O d'A already had a new streaming board!!

At first is does appear odd, the initial reaction has to be I want more class A, not less, However, when you think through how ADH works, I think this is a case of the amplifier becoming more efficient and more powerful, not more 'digital'. It did not sound 'less class A'. that is for sure! I did actually want to ask about this during the presentation, but it was one of those occasions where a few people were chipping in with questions and things moved on and it dropped out of context. Having listened to the amp for a while I forgot all about the class A thing (this should tell you something!) so I didn't think to ask later. I guess there will be many other 'launches' coming up, so we will have to pass the baton on with this one. Who's next!

I don't know how you can be sure the DAC is the weak part when you can't separate it from the amplifier. I know Devialet have made some mistakes with regards to communication and AIR is only just about 'fixed' but if there's one thing I do trust them in it is knowing what makes a better sounding amp. After all, the whole reason for us all buying one is because they sound so damn good. And, as we know, it's not the individual parts that make these amps sound so good. It's the implementation.

One thing that was discussed at great length was that you cannot consider the DAC and ADH in combination in the same way as you would a standalone DAC. They have revised the ADH architecture extensively and it is clear they consider the 'DAC' in this context to be a strong point. What makes you think the DAC is a 'weak point'? There is no evidence of this from how it sounds. Although I guess that for anyone who wants native DSD, DXD or whatever, this is an issue. The ADH architecture is PCM, period. So DSD will need to be converted to PCM. It should be noted that the ADH core runs at 40bit 384khz (I think this is correct, another one that needs Ian's notebook), 40bit 384khz is a lot!
