I understood from someone who attended the Paris event that the Class A output stage is, in fact, more powerful. In other words, more Class A watts. Something loss in translation?

Was there any clarification about "discount for recent purchasers of Expert line"?

Nothing said about that - sorry!

(14-Jul-2016, 15:27)IanG-UK Wrote: [ -> ]He also explained that the theoretical optimum mix (but practically unachievable) between A and D was 0% A and 100% D; but that the changes had moved them from 2%/98% to 0.5%/99.5%, improving precision by a factor of four.

Thanks, Ian, for the detailed report.

What does the theoretical optimum mix of the ABig Grin ratio of 0:100 mean?  Does that mean that the Pro series require less Class A output than before to produce the equivalent power output (when compared to the existing series)?

I am trying to understand the concept of precision having being improved by a factor of 4 as well

My technical understanding is limited. I draw parallels with the Quad current dumping approach where the slight B imperfections were filled in by the precise A part. So I assumed the point was that the absence of need for any "D" correction was ideal in theory buy not deliverable in practice. so what was 98% D with a 2% A contribution now becomes 99.5% D and 0.5% A - so the correction has reduced by a factor of 4 meaning the precision has improved by a factor of 4. Beyond that I'm lost.
Thanks very much to Brian and to Ian for the detailed and very instructive reports. This is very useful for our understanding of the situation Smile

@Guillaume: I was rather sure you would react like that to the upgrade schedule. And I do feel about the same as you do Wink
Was there any further details on what the new streamer board would be capable of over the old one? I'm hearing rumors of Certified compatibility like AirPlay.

Thanks to all those who reported on this event.

So: they can come up with a new amplifier design in 6 months, but they want another year to sort out streaming ?

And no mention of the crappy remote app, that does almost nothing ? That must be the easiest possible thing to improve, but doesn't even get a mention, presumably because they couldn't charge megabucks for it.

I am surprised that anyone is even considering putting another penny in the pockets of these shysters. Big on promises, but very small on delivery.

Time to move on, I think.

I would prefer they take their time with the new streamer and deliver something mature than have some half assed solution.

As for moving on; where would you move on to? If (and I know it's a big IF) this streamer works out then it would be hard to find anything that will beat Devialet. At any price.
When you think about it, Devialet is like a really hot but demanding girlfriend; You really don't want to be bothered with her demands but there's something about her that makes you want to come back for more.  Tongue
Another observation. The 250 stays a 250 (Pro). So that must be a marketing thing. The 250 is clearly just a step up to the 1000 and not seen as a stand alone amp. When you think about this, the 400 costs the same as the 250 now. If the 440Pro costs the same as the 250Pro, then Devialet are effectively selling two cases for the price of one little bit more expensive case, both with the same amplifier board.

Pim - you make a fair point. The SQ is superb, and I don't know of an alternative that would be better, or even match it for a similar price. However, for me, this 'hobby' is about more than just SQ. There is a 'lifestyle' element too, and I am getting fed up with all the peripheral stuff that I need to use in order to make my system do what I bought it to do right out of the box. I am getting fed up with the fact that I can do almost anything I want from my iPad outside of my HiFi, but if I want to check the bass level or the treble level or the SAM% I have to stand over the display on the amplifier. More than anything, even though it is the cheapest 'component' of my system, Roon has been a complete game-changer for me, and I was bitterly disappointed to learn that (a) a better streaming solution is >1 year away, (b) it will (apparently) require a paid upgrade to my already-expensive amplifiers and ( c) there seems to be only a glimmer of hope that Roon will even be supported if and when it ever gets released.

Finally, for all the love and dedication to the brand from people on this forum and elsewhere, Devialet's attitude to customers and communication is leaving an increasingly bitter taste, especially in comparison with people like Roon and many other specialist suppliers, who actually seem to care about what their paying customers say and think.

So do I.

For me it´s like: hey users, forget about all these AIR problems for years and our abysmally poor communication.
As we do by ourselves Big Grin

We have the worldbest AIR for you "soon" and an overwhelming upgrade which came in our mind at random while thinking about how to make our costumers more happy - and of course some more money for us. It will cost a lot of bugs, but hey, you will love it. And you can do so many things with it in the future. We don´t even know by ourselves what this will be. But there will be something great, we promise. A streaming bord is coming. Oh, we don´t really know, when and how it will work. We said that years ago? Oh, forget it. What we will launch next year (did we say end of 2016 before?!) will beat all and you will forget soon, what you don´t like about us. Roon? Yes, of course, we think about it. As we thought about the AIR problem? Sorry, we could not communicate as we were sooo busy working on it. And know - our in August - we have the solution. And as you can all see (when we will present it), we made a good job on it. Aren´t we the greatest? You will be so happy, we guess, so it seems to be a good time to announce something new to fill our wallets.

No software for it? We are working on it so hard, we promise.
Streaming board? Soon Cool

Petition? Oooh, yes. We saw it. But who cares Tongue We are the best Sleepy
