I simply did not get on with v9.0.1 - it sounded a bit lean in the bass through full range speakers and a bit forward and hifi sounding. It did not sound right in my system. I went back to v8.1.3 and immediately felt it was more natural with fuller bass textures and extension.
When v10.0.2 came out many people were saying it was just v9.01 with added tricks for the newer models. However rather than dismissing it without listening  Big Grin I thought I would try it at the weekend.

This is indeed different to v8.1.3. Soundstage more forward of the plane of the speakers - lots of air and sparkle but in no way aggressive or toppy (like 9.0.1). In fact I would go as far to say that this is the best yet in my system in that regard.

I think overall the bass is less extended than v8.1.3 however it has a bit more poise and grip - maybe v8.1.3 has less control? (this is minor and I suspect personal preference). I will need more listing but I'm pretty sure v10.0.2 holds a tune better - maybe more controlled bass. Kind of reminds me of the bad old days of my valve pre-power combos - balanced or unbalanced interconnects? The former gave bigger bass but could sound a bit diffuse, the latter had more control and rhythm but less extension - drove me nuts (thank you Devialet - 1 box and no wires!)

I've noted that some people are now having issues with ROON AIR3b. Me too. Plays no problem after start up but if I change source and come back to it later I can't get AIR and ROON to talk. Think I've found a cure (well, it has worked twice....) - start playing a track on ROON (no sound) then cycle through the sources on the Dev until you get back to WiFi input. The Dev then spends its usual 5-10 seconds locking on to signal and hey presto sound! Again, I've only done this twice and it worked both times.

Anyway, I like what I'm hearing with v10.0.2 and will persevere.

That is interesting.

With 9.01 I had started using Dirac 1.2 Mac beta to control a troublesome room mode, to the extent that I really did not want to listen without it.

Having moved to 10.02 I now find that the improvement from Dirac seems much less, or to put it another way, the sound without Dirac seems much more controlled at the lower end than it was before.

I'm not sure how real that is, but I would be happy to have one less link in the chain.
Im experiencing exactly the same thing. The problematic room node i had is almost totally gone now and i can have the bass set to 0db now instead of -5db before. It also sounds much more airy now. Very happy with this firmware upgrade!
I think this firmware is quite interesting to me. At first, I almost felt a disconnection amongst things in the picture. I felt the vocals are more focused and separated from the instruments. Background is darker, much more separation. It allows me to listen at higher volume. After a few days getting used to it, I started to appreciate it more, it's less cluttered than previous firmware.

As a brief user of v8.1.3 and v9.0.1, I did not like the music from those versions. Hence I fall back on v7.1.3 most of the times.

V10.0.2 is definitely superior than v8.1.3 and v9.0.1 in terms of clarity, sparkle and also tighter bass without overwhelming mid-range.
As I personally prefer a better top end to the music, the SAM is set at 0%.
Anyone made any changes to the SAM setting with the new firmware?

I will find time to listen more in the coming weekend when return from overseas. Hopefully v10.0.2 is a stayer.
Devialet's bass sound has always been rounded and warm. That is not good in my system but now with 10.0.2 the balance is like it should be. I have D250 with JBL 4345. Maybe I need to try D1000...

Just my 2c - I upgraded my D400 this morning; everything fine, correctly plays 96k files over ETH and WiFi using Air3b from Roon. Sounds great, and at least as good as 9.01, if not better.

Let's hope whatever has happened is easily resolved.

Ah, that sounds promising. I had streamed from iTunes only ... will go back to Air 3beta again and test with Roon. Did you check the frequency on the Devialet screen as well?

Yes, indeed I did. It reported 96k for both wired and WiFi.
Hi Zappydev,

just to let you know that you were perfectly right. It just works very well with Roon on Air 3 beta.
Just upgraded this morning.
Ok so far playing with as usual AIR 2.1.3 (tested 3 DSD64 tracks over AIR-Eth still ok)
Will take time to double check what are the differences between 9 & 10
First difference noticed is about the sound stage and centered image.
I need more time to listen.

Unfortunately it doesn't sound at all good on my 250. It seems to suck the life out of the music and by comparison is flat and ponderous. Bass seems overblown not tighter. It also loses detail (emotion in voices) and a much reduced soundstage. Why would I suddenly need to ratchet down my sub several notches? Back to 9 for me. It's all in the ear of the beholder. In this case for me, it is not to my liking.
Well, from me...... A very resounding WOW!

I dunno why, but it seems that it is having the effect (as well as other things) of expanding and solidifying the sound stage!
I played my fav Roger Walters and got a bit of a shock as he just materialized right between (and slightly to the left of centre) to perform his vocal after a few bars of intro music... When it happened first, it was quite unnerving! - More 'real' than I have ever experienced before...

So- I am a fan! Big Grin
