Tumble weed it certainly is. Sit still and wait and just count the weed bundles as they pass.

A prize to the member who counts the most weeds before the next upgrade is introduced. Of course, if no upgrade, the competition is void.

No upgrade is my bet at the moment.
I got a message from Devialet’s support that they are estimating that next beta FW will be released ”early autumn”. I did not ask what features and fixes it will have.

Did you ask what hemisphere? North? South?

Hah, nope Smile I can only guess they meant early autumn in Paris. Let’s keep in mind that it was only an estimation. Things can take longer time than expected as we have seen many times earlier.
Autumn for the 'next' Beta FFS.

How about sharing the beta with more users and getting some faster more comprehensive feedback?

I know it's supposedly a small team working on firmware but what the hell else are they working on that means so little time is being dedicated to something that hasn't been updated for what is approaching several years? If the functionality were complete and we were just talking about a maintenance release then maybe I could understand the low priority. As it stands large parts of functionality are not available, configuration is as clunky as hell and some people experience significant bugs.

I used my Expert Pro for several years via usb or wifi. Occasionally Air. Devialet's plan a few years ago was a universal app for Expert, Phantom, Reactor etc. Would be nice. I've been using the Naim one for my son's MuSo.

The February 2019 firmware with Roon made a Devialet app pretty redundant. Even without Roon, which I use, I found uPnP worked flawlessly and my wife and kids use Spotify. We've not had a single issue since its release.

Various people at Devialet have told me that the vast majority of problems have been network and switching issues. They get a huge amount of positive feedback. Sure one or two people have issues, but given the vast majority don't I don't think the problem is with the hardware or software.

Some want wireless configuration. How many times do you need to change it? The only thing I've changed in recent years was cartridge loading, which can be done on the small panel using the remote.

As far as I am concerned, this is a mature product that doesn't need fixing as it ain't broke. It sits in a cupboard, behaves, and everyone in my house loves the sound and functionality.

I believe it is very personal opinion. If you really would like to know the bugs in that stable product, I can list at least 2-3 bugs per input method. I am glad to hear that you don’t face any issue but the current software of the Expert Pro can’t be called stable. My profession is software industry and believe me if we had this level of software quality, we have closed the doors of the company ages ago. Please, don’t encourage bad quality products specially if they are not served for free without any support. Expert Pro’s software is well thought in terms of features but awfully implemented. I am sorry but that’s the reality. If you buy a car with 400km/h top speed promise and if you always use it on top 90km/h and if anyone tried 400km/h speed and died because of a failure in the car, you cannot say people to don’t pass the limit of 90km/h and everything will be great and this is a perfect car. Please, stop praising the awful products, please. Devialet failed in the implementation of their cool idea, it is that simple.

We're all Devialet owners so all we see is Devialet issues but if you have a look around on the net, there are quite a few audio companies dealing with similar problems. I was browsing the Roon forum and the Dutch and Dutch 8C owners are still waiting for RAAT to be implemented and there are bugs. D&D have promised to communicate better in the future (Sounds familiar?)
I'm not going on record here saying the Expert is the perfect product but I think if we looked at the broader audio community it's nothing worse than others.
BTW, I had a fast car and drove it hard. It kept breaking down so I'm back to boring Japanese cars. The fast car brand is still in business and they're doing very well.

I don't think Devialet failed at all. So maybe you would have done the software another way. I have a product that works faultlessly and sounds great. Why should I not praise and recommend it?

I would be interested to know what the bugs are. Please list them.
I have 2 specific issues that many others have experienced and that Devialet has acknowledged but without any resolution...

1) Roon RAAT cannot stream hi-res music via gigabit ethernet. Some people do not have this problem but many do. It’s not a showstopper because streaming via WiFi or 100 mbps does work.

2) The online configurator has known problems when configuring for dual-mono. Editing a config is not possible without serious problems.

Hey, I love the sound of my Expert Pro, but Devialet has known about these problems for a long time without any updates. Perhaps we will see them at some point but the total lack of communication and bug resolution is frustrating.
