Problems with Core Infinity
(05-Jan-2018, 02:21)baddog Wrote: Actually, Roon (with or without AIR) is configurable in terms of DSP and bit rate. However, if you have a 24/96 recording, unless you configure it via the DSP settings, it will play it back at 24/96, glitches or no glitches.

Spot on. You can also check the signal that the D is receiving by holding down the source button and looking at the display. But you all probably knew that anyway!

Yes ; but above 24/96 Roon Air is no longer bit perfect.
That's why I say it downsizes sample rate to 96 maximum to avoid higher bit rates bugs we all know.

Inox, are you sure about this? Is this set from somewhere? Is there anything stated in the “sound chain dot”? It should be clear there, shouldn’t it? Also, what happens if you are using HQPlayer and Roon? Does Roon downsample things in this case, too?

Sorry for the inquiry, it is a big issue for me (and I guess several of us) and seems really odd...

Thanks, cheers,

According to Devialet, the AIR has two modes (Bitperfect and fixed broadband):

Quote:AIR offers two different set-up options, asynchronous BitPerfect or asynchronous fixed broadband, to ensure the best possible service quality in even the most unreliable network environments.

I have also noticed that the AIR works in BitPerfect mode up to 96 kHz but with 192 kHz it goes automatically to fixed output mode (that definitely sounds worse). This happens when using Wifi.

Ok so I think we are talking about Devialet AIR and sometimes Roon AIR.

I am using and discussing Roon AIR only. Roon Air is bit perfect at 24/192 as well as 24/96.

Actually, there really isn't a Roon AIR, I know we are using the term as a differentiator to the Devialet AIR drivers that runs on Macs and PCs. Roon merely supports the Devialet AIR protocol and works without the Devialet AIR driver, as it does for example with my NUC running Roon Rock OS.

Yeah, thanks, Baddog, now I understand. You and I are talking about Roon’s AIR implementation, not Devialet’s AIR drivers and the like.

Cheers!

Just to clarify, I'm also talking about Roon AIR over Wifi. It goes to fixed output mode with 192 kHz, as you can see here:

Interesting - this is using Roon using AIR protocol via ethernet. 24/192 FLAC file. I will have to try this with WIFI and see what I get as a result.

Perhaps if the Wi-Fi network is deemed not to be robust enough, Roon downsamples. This is a wild guess and probably wrong! Confused

Hi All,

Petrik illustrated what I was talking about, using Roon Air (not Devialet Air 3) and Wifi. Baddog is right, this is not happening with Ethernet.
What I suppose is that Air is not stable enough - we know it - so Roon avoided higher bit rates bugs by using the fixed output mode.
This is the reason why I also use Audirvana ; no bitrate limitation but another bug : you need to reset Air 3 or unplug/plug the Devialet when your next file is not at the same bitrate than the previous one : in this case it's a full stop.
I hope RAAT will put an end to all this when implemented in the CI card....
