I am going to settle in with the stock Crystal cable paired with a Hosa RCA/XLR adapter for now, and give it a little time till my ears acclimate before trying something different. I would be interested in trying the Cabledyne, but unlike their other cables, this one cannot be returned as they consider it s custom order. Looking forward yo your further thoughts later this year.

I use the Cabledyne custom cable and I find it really good, better than the stock Crystal cable with rca to xlr adapter. I have Focal Electra 1038BE speakers and the are sounding really good not to bright with this cable.
One thing about the Audioprana that will, perhaps, make some of the purists out there happier, is that they use a 75/110 ohm transformer from Lundahl in the cable between the RCA and XLR connectors.

What is the benefit of this? I know there is more about this on the net and on this forum. Devialet also told me that there is no mening to use a 75/110 ohm transformer on the XLR input when I was looking for a new cable so I went for a Cabledyne RCA to XLR cable.

Matching the characteristic impedence between the connectors and the cable on both the output and (especially) the input ends, is supposed to reduce signal reflections and jitter.

Ok, I just went another route after reading on the forum and what Devialet wrote to me about their XLR input and it works perfectly, maybe it would be better with the transformer 75/110 I dont know and at this point I dont think the diffrenses are big.

Hi,

I did the comparison using a Lundahl 75/110 transformer at the XLR end (75 ohm cable). Compared to non transformed signal ie RCA to 75 ohm cable and XLR in the AES/EBU end I could not hear any difference.
I now run the Cabledyne 75 ohm RCA to XLR which sounds superb.

/Mike
Thanks, interestingly I was told by Cabledyne that there RCA to XLR cable is 110 Ohm.

This is something new to me.

Mine was a special order, I wanted it like this with 75 ohm cable and Xhadow plugs in both ends.

When I ordered mine I told them I wanted the same as Mike so I asume that I got the same but I have sent an email to them to confirm how they build the cable.

This is the answer from Cabledyne.

Quote:If the output is RCA and input is XLR, the cable is 75 Ohms. Some customers asked for the output as XLR and in this case it is 110 Ohm. In order to meet S/PDIF or AES/EBU standards the output and input must be the same interface but the Devialet cable is really just an adapter cable.

Mike specified a 75 Ohm cable. Your cable was made to same specification.

Best regards,

Ed Bowman
