My favourite dealer is selling a demo D120 and D400 at very good prices; well below the retail price. No doubt this is because the new models are coming out. Rather than be annoyed, I was thinking of a reason to buy another D120.... I just don't have a good argument figured out yet. Stunning bargains,  IMHO. Sooo tempting.

I remain of the opinion that we are lucky that a full upgrade path exists, even if we don't take advantage of it. Or, even if it is expensive. It is a pretty serious replacement of internal parts, and I would think the RE +RE process is less labour efficient than the production of new product.

I did get an email this AM from Devialet, asking me to confirm my interest in the upgrade; this was a follow up to my earlier expression of interest a few months ago. Even though I am uncertain about the upgrade, I am interested in knowing the details of timing and prices for Canada.

I noticed also that the email mentioned DLNA/ UPnP. I still cringe when I remember my UPnP experiences with my previous Naim equipment, but I know many here want it, so that is a credit to Devialet. It is part of the future Dev OS software. (Old news I know). I mention this in relation to the thread topic; the upgrade contains or accommodates operability and functions in addition to sound quality improvements. Teaches an old box new tricks, so to speak.

...... the power of the upgrade force is growing stronger.....

In fact, I'm even more impressed that with the Pro series they have, according to the ears of some others here, made a remarkable improvement to an already outstanding line of musical amplification products.

Best in the world? No such thing, not with amplifiers or speakers or any other component. If you have found something you like better, off you go. But it is not a cost equivalent; as you admit, you will need a (an expensive) DAC and a (an expensive) phono stage, plus cables at whatever price point seems required. Oh, and a streamer. If Gryphon is charging the equivalent of a D440 Pro, and you're not getting a DAC or streamer or phono stage, then perhaps they are the arrogant company.

I'm not a hi-fi hobby person- I don't play with the gear as a pastime, so I haven't been chomping at the bit over the upgrade, or been driven to shop again by the announcement. I probably don't qualify as a long time owner (Feb 2015) but I'm loyal because I love the sound my D120 makes. It is remarkable for the price. Their marketing or upgrade policy, pricing or communications have done nothing to change my opinion of the product or the company.

Damon, you have made some really good points on this forum but this post of yours was an exception. I'm actually struggling a bit to even see what point you are trying to make here.

First of all it is obvious, here as well as elsewhere, that you do not belong to that group of owners who are considering to move away from Devialet. Does it not become tiresome for you to point out that fact every time you read about another member considering such a move?

Secondly, the upcoming hardware upgrade, the practicalities and costs surrounding it and Devialet's way of handling the entire thing has had a very different effect on different people and for various reasons. Some are not upset, some are and others enough so to leave Devialet for this reason or for others. Do you honestly think it is nice to ridicule those members? For this is exactly what you are doing here by commenting on my post in this manner. You are not funny but simply disrespectful and "oh" arrogant.

Thanks iamwappie, I guess there are many ways of reading and understanding the same text. That is why it is even more important to think about the way we express ourselves online and take extra care not coming across as unfriendly, disrespectful and arrogant.
Martin,

Well, I'm sorry that you took my post so personally. I did not intend it to be a personal attack. I felt i was responding with to some of your points, but I don't post here with the intention of goading or insulting others. Not usually, anyway. Tone and intonation are difficult to get across in writing, so it may be that my intended tone did not come across. But I do write and edit all my posts carefully, both for tone and mood as well as content and grammar. Perhaps I should use smilies or emoticons.

It may be that I repeat my position in posts; sometimes that position is relevant to more than one thread. I doubt that I am the only one who does so. And I reject the idea that I was ridiculing any other member whose experience is different than my own; not others, not you. I use my real name on this forum, and I would have said the same things to you face-to-face in conversation. In that situation, I believe that we would have had a much different type of discussion.

Finally, I think that my phrase '... perhaps they are the arrogant company' was not well-worded or necessary. It clearly did not come across as I intended. I will delete it.

I'm also a D120 owner and was wondering do I actually benefit from an upgrade. I assumed that 80% of the benefit I'd already have vs a D200. The other 20% from the upgrade over the D200. Since an upgraded model is not available yet for audition I now have a D200 on loan just to see if I hear the difference. It turned out to be a no brainer. Control, effortless, soundstage has improved alot. I'm convinced I need to upgrade now :-)
Thankyou for the information.  I am also keen to get on with it now that I have committed.
This is exactly why I am leaving Devialet. I bought the original Premier and then upgraded to the D250! AIR has been an intermittently functioning headache!!!! To milk more money out of someone who was promised a lot with the last upgrade is ridiculous. I also agree with those recommending not upgrading any further unless there is an improvement in SQ. If I did the next upgrade I would have spent $25,000 for this all on one system. There are many great component setups for this price which will match and/or surpass the SQ for this price.
Air is now working, or not for you?

That sucks. I feel your pain. I went from unusable (v2.x) to bulletproof (so far) (v3.x) and my outlook transformed overnight.

Hope it works out for you, whatever you decide to do.
