Another one of those 'measurement only reviews'.

Who is he doing this for? Deaf people?

Perhaps for people who are interested in knowing more the technical details of an equipment?

Anyway, it‘s the same site publishing the devastating report for one of the Devialets, don‘t remember which one, but ist caused quite a stir!

Regarding ASR's devastating report of the D200, this is the measurement they made of repaired unit following return from Devialet:

Compare this to the more recent ASR test of the M33.  What I think is remarkable is that these results are so similar, I would imagine a larger difference is possible between different production samples of the same product. Indeed, the difference between channels on the NAD is greater than the difference between channel 1 on the NAD versus the channel 1 of the Devialet.

In terms of ASR's words:

NAD M33 "the ranking is still very good though"

Devialet D200: "This is well above average compared to all the amplifiers we have measured but way short of state-of-the-art:"

So from the comparison of the measurements, I take it that the M33 is also ,way short of state-of-the-art‘?  Smile

But on the other hand, would you go and have an intense listening session with a piece of kit that measures badly? Or in other words, something measuring badly cannot sound good.

I do agree though, among equally well measuring equipments, the ear needs to decide!

Tube amps measure very badly - yet, many people love them.

Actually, according to ASR, the Expert range measures bad too. So, if I were in the market for an amp, knowing how the Experts sound, I would put the M33 on my list too, given it 'measures bad'.

Absolutely, I‘d put both, the Devialet and the M33, into the same league!

I don‘t know if there are already direct listening comparisons between the Devs and the M33.

I love my Devialet Expert 120, despite ASR and what not reviews!
