It looks like the inputs are not changed (maybe a different make of the RCA ones). I hoped that they will provide an additional AES/EBU because it sounds so much better than the other options. At that level the input interface (including filtering etc.) could make a more significant contribution to sound quality than just lowering the distortion levels of the amp section.

With an upgrade like this Devialet had a unique opportunity to include a special connection between units for dual mono. On RJ45 for example. It appears they have not used this opportunity. Rethinking of the design did not include connections unfortunately.
Yes, it is a pity. A LAN or even AES to AES connection would have been ideal, instead of the current SPDIF to AES connection.

Oh well, maybe with v7.0 hardware or new case in future.

The only amp I have heard to match it for transparency costs 5 times more, and the upgrade price was way more than Devialet charge. Also, being "old technology" is (are effectively since they are separates) not software upgradeable at all.

IMO their complete ADH hybrid amplification topology is their single 'raison d'être' and they underperform in almost everything else, relatively.
If the system is so bad and there methodology so terrible why did you all buy them in the first place?

Simple answer is ADH

I agree completely with Antoine here.

I'm with you guys.  ADH and SAM, after that everything is mediocre to downright bad.

Well I bought a D-Premier in February 2012 (before they even released AIR with the WiFi streaming module) from an entirely different Devialet company than they are today. It sounded great back then as an amp and still does. Of all the great promise it showed and promises they made on other areas little have materialised or were of poor quality/usefulness/value.

I've upgraded to 250 specs and that too has become nothing but disappointing, for me it's proven to be in effect a complete waste of money. And now there's already a new complete hardware upgrade just around the corner which only makes it worse since there's little chance that without upgrading again it'll turn out to be less a waste of money. Of course it's also because I learned and experimented quite a bit over the years I've become more critical.

Anyway, not saying goodbye to it yet but I'm also not sure if I'll upgrade or buy anything new from them ever again. In fact up to a few weeks ago I was very sure I wouldn't even upgrade but I didn't expect them to improve the core of the amp further which might prove worthwhile if the conditions for the upgrade are right. Right now I do know for sure that everything else that's being rumoured/leaked, for me personally is completely uninteresting (for example the new streamer board).

While I've always thought the upgradability (both soft- and hardware) would be a great plus I'm more and more changing to thinking it's actually anything but. It only leads to (high) expectations and thus a greater chance to be disappointed. Also, IMO the evolution/further development of the product has been too slow thus far to warrant full hardware upgrades that soon and again. So I don't think they're a great value. Thus far anything we've seen has been anything but 'revolutionary', a word like they like to use so often.
This is becoming an exercise in confession and catharsis. There is an Internet site for that.

No, it is Devialet's behaviour that makes us comment the way we do. And this forum is the perfect location for our comments.
