you will let us know with 1000 PRO + Mutec Smile maybe the Mutec will be useless then.

Etalon is hungarian I guess. For a reason I do not know it is well known only here in France. I know it for a couple of years but thought the optical bridge was enough, like many audiophiles I talked too.
Until some of them bought it... were skeptical but said it was real step in terms of instruments separation, clarity and some other aspects I could not describe in english.

forums are quite ehnthusiastics.

a reliable source confirmed it to me. So I will buy one this week.
Hello All
FWIW, I have been a 'believer' in reclockers since discovering and buying first one then two Wyred 4 Sound Remedy Reclockers (wired in series). I then auditioned the Mutec MC3+, replacing the two remedies between my Esoteric UX-1 in transport mode and my Devialet D400s. There was a significant improvement with the Mutec. I bought the Mutec and sold both my Remedies. The mutec was a slightly cheaper solution than the two Remedies in series and eliminated the need for a third coax SP/DIF cable.

I see the Mutec received an honory mention in this month's (December??!) hi-fi News & Record Review. This surprised me a bit, as it does more or less cover high end kit only. Having said that, I did send them any email a while back, this was after reading that they were using their reference D800 via USB from a Melco, my point related to issues I found with the N1Z, microRendu, and how much better the D800 performs with a Mutec. They never responded to my email, but maybe they were getting the message.

Anyway, this is from their review of the Bang and Olufsen BeoLab 90 speakers. "By way of source we used a combination of the HFN room's reference Melco server and Mutec MC3+USB interface.....".

I doubt we'll see them actually reviewing the Mutec anytime soon, so a bit of a curious one. It does say something for the Mutec though.
I currently have a Mcintosh MCD500. I connect a good old Squeezbox3 Classic to it using the SPDIF Coax in.
The SQ comes nowhere near the SQ of a CD loaded in the MCD500.

Besides that the SB offers the functionality I'm looking for.

Do I keep the SB and add the Mutec?
-or-
Do I invest in a new streamer (Aurender, TotalDav, etc, etc)

Thanks
Invest in both. Wink

The Mutec will no doubt improve both devices, the question is will it do enough for the SB to make it a competitor for higher end streamers.

A cheaper alternative for the Aurender/TotalDAC like devices would be a combination of the Mutec + microRendu or the SoTM SMS-200 (both powered by a high quality power supply like the Uptone Audio LPS-1).

It was mentioned in a Marantz review of the September issue as well. The Mutec also had a small news item in that issue.
So, is Mutec still relevant after the pro upgrade? I was holding off on buying Mutec hoping that the new pro upgrade will incorporate what Mutec does (re-clock).
With the Pro Devialet made changes to the power supply and ADH core. No changes in the DAC's used, inputs or DSP sections. We'll have to wait and see what the new OS/streamer board will bring to the table. I'm quite sure this new board will replace the current DUET card which holds the USB, ethernet and one toslink inputs but also the DSP core. Since Devialet has confirmed 5GHz WiFi will be supported this means they'll also replace the tiny WiFi daughterboard.

The Mutec takes the digital output signal of a source, strips it from its embedded clock signal and rebuilds a new digital signal using its own high quality clock. If it's a USB source one uses it also provides galvanic isolation of the USB source.

Summing up I's say it's as relevant as it was before the Pro upgrade but that may change when the new OS board is released. I'm pessimistic though that Devialet will do its job as well as a specialist in digital and clocking like Mutec, especially in the extremely limited space they have inside the Pro's and all the functions they have to incorporate there.

By a lucky coincidence, I have just tried my 1000 Pro both with and without the Mutec, see link:

The conclusion is that the Pro is sensitive to what you feed it.  Much like the old Expert, if you improve the source, the amp just gets better and better. I just hope that Devialet are aware of all this and make every possible effort to optimise the new streamer board for the best sound quality. To be honest, I am not optimistic it will be better that a decent USB source and a Mutec, I can only think that to achieve this would quite simply be too expensive, to provide the streaming capabilities, the re-clocking and so on in a board they claim to be worth Euro 1500. You never know though! Time will tell.
Thx Antoine and Confused!!! My question is unequivocally answered.
