Hmmm, so that may be forcing 100 mbps network speed with the Devialet rather than gigabit speed. At the least, it’s using the slower speed to the router. Probably no way to know for sure.

In truth, there’s absolutely nothing wrong streaming at 100 mbps. T/hat’s plenty fast for streaming hi-res music. The problem only manifests itself when using gigabit speed. It would seem to be a Devialet issue yet Devialet claims that it works at gigabit speed for them.
@audio_engr

I hadn't thought of using a USB dongle. Does Roon see your Devialet as a Roon Ready device over that connection? My understanding is that Roon uses RAAT for network connections but sees USB output as a local connection.
The USB Ethernet dongle would look like a network device as far as Roon is concerned, so RAAT would be an appropriate protocol.  That said, since @audio_engr has a point-to-point wired Ethernet connection from the Nucleus to the Devialet, RAAT would be running on that link and (I expect) would not be used on the link to the router via the USB-Ethernet dongle.
I posted the question and then decided damn it. the dongle isn't expensive. I'll just go and get one and give it a try. I don't use a Nucleus but I'm in the process of ordering one. In the meantime I'll try it with my Antipodes and see if it works with it, then I can have the fun of trying it again when I get the Nucleus.

Thanks for the response.
Well, just got back with a dongle and tried it. No go with my Antipodes. I can get Roon to see the Devialet as a networked device but it doesn't recognise it as either a Devialet AIR endpoint or a Roon Ready endpoint. Obviously Antipodes is doing something different with their USB connections than the Nucleus is.

Indeed - Devialet does see it as a "Roon Ready" device.

Correct ! Its RAAT
I have this switch with me thats a gigabit.

I will remove the USB Ethernet dongle and use this switch and try ... will update you guys as to what happens.
I have had similar problems, audio file loading slowly, dropouts etc with Roon RAAT. These issues happen with almost every track, so Roon RAAT is almost completely unusable for me. Devialet AIR works slightly better but it's not working perfectly either (lots of dropouts all the time).

I have Netgear Orbi router, Netgear GS108 switch, and CAT-6 UTP cables. Everything else works flawlessly in the network (including other RAAT zones), the only problem is streaming to the Devialet.

I have sent all details to Devialet's support and Roon's support but I haven't got any beneficial help from them. Devialet's support just thanked me for the "feedback" and closed my support ticket... They seem to be really eager closing the tickets although the problem hasn't been solved.

That's the ethernet switch I'm currently using.  It works well which, since I haven't tried any A/B comparisons of switches, basically translates to something like "it's been working for well over a year with no problems in my system".
