Now that we have had evidence that it appears that cards above 4GB can give installation errors (without any notices) of firmware updates are we all sure that these differences are in the firmware version or the installation. I have found problems like this myself.

I heard a little rumour that the guys at Devialet find the fact that people hear differences quite amusing Tongue
After Devialet have my ATC SCM 40 speakers SAMed I was so excited to try for the first time this feature.
Looking at the curves (http://fr.devialet.com/enceintes/atc/atc-scm-40) to my surprise I noticed that in comparison to a lot of other speakers that had already been SAMed,my speakers
sound pressure diagrams were almost identical or didn't correct much.I don't know if that means that my speakers are that good or SAM doesn't offer too much for my speakers.
Let's go to SQ now:
I agree more than 100% with what aisip Wrote:
"The series 8 FWs (all of them) sound clinical and hifi-ish in comparison".
Every firmware after 7.x.x that I tried including 8.1.2 and 8.1.3 with my speakers SAMed do not compete firmwares 7.x.x without the SAM feature in my speakers.
As I wrote in a previous post sound is hifi not hiend which also aisip wrote which absolutely explain the fact for the review here:

The poor guy tested our beloved Devialet with 8.0.0 firmware... and the comment by Frederic says it all:

and by using Google translate:
""Beware the 8.0.0 firmware was not as good as the latest evolution of 7.
Firmware 8.1.2 corrects the defects that you mentioned "- the translation was bad firmware 8.0.0, 8.1.2 is the slightly less bad?

I am very skeptical ... That sounds like a good excuse to say that the product was never tested as it should ... Devialet takes over the computer as High Fidelity, I see myself malaise customer that mark and check every two days if the designer has decided to release yet another update, this is worse than Microsoft and Windows. Knowing that each update the product will be different, what about my original choice after affectué beautiful or less beautiful plays at my favorite retailer?
One option for the "bobos", Devialet buy eyes and ears closed, in every way the musicality of products of this brand is very inadequate and it is not an unchecked and uncontrolled firmware that will change anything ... Wait 12.2.1 firmware before you have an opinion ..."

So let us hope and wait for 12.2.1 firmware...
MusicFirst: When you say "I find my Jamo R909s sound a little boomy on both 8.1.3 versions with full SAM, but dialling back SAM a little to 80 or 90% seems to deal with the problem. ". Is it possible for you to define if this a general boominess, or perhaps (maybe slightly subjectively) define this as being too much of the very lowest bass?

With respect to the differences I have found between 8.1.3beta and the official release, I'm not sure at all if the 8GB cards I'd (apparently successfully) used previously are the reason.  The only way to find out would be to switch back to the beta version with my current 4GB configuration cards.  Another firmware switch and comparison?  I just can't face it!  Not now.....   Please no more......
Confused

The boominess is centered around 100 hz. The response centred around 40hz is pretty flat.

I was in 8.1.2, and prior to upgrade to 8.1.3, I tried 7.1.3.

My loudspeakers are not SAMmed, so the difference is purely firmware-based.

8.1.3 = 8.1.3 sounds spectacular. I could live happy ever after with any of them. Cannot tell the difference.

7.1.3: more natural: I am hearing the real thing. Voices and instruments sound as though they were right there. More comfortable to listen; more musical. Just true.

7.1.3 is for me the best firmware yet.

Did you try the 8.1.3 beta?

That's why I'm so glad I don't have to listen with their ears.  Big Grin

...and people who think all cables sound the same don't have to hear my Valhalla 2 speaker cables.  Seriously, no grins.

That's interesting.  To be honest I'm looking for trends, however, my issues were at the very very lowest frequencies, at about 100 Hz SAM is doing next to nothing.  I'm starting to think that SAM 2 issues are speaker specific, if there are trends they are quite well hidden.
