(24-Jul-2015, 22:20)Confused Wrote: [ -> ]Due to my various 8.x.x and SAM 2 issues, I have switched back to 7.1.3 a few times now without any issues.  As a wild stab in the dark, I recall NickB mentioning once that there can be issues with some higher capacity SD cards in the D200.

That was exactly the case - loading it on a simple 4gb card solved the problem. Thanks Henry
Frankly, I still do not get the SQ discussions with all the versions of firmware etc.

I agree on the impact of some SAM profiles on SQ, that is an issue which is solved now, (I guess/hope.)

But I do expect Devialet to NOT touch anything focused on the general basic sound quality (Processing, DSP, conversions, etc...), without informing the customer.
The SQ was the reason why I bought the D.

I am still happy because I claim, that Devialet didnt touch or changed anything on SQ since the last 6 month I own my D.
They are supposed to focused on bugfixes and additional features and innovations (which they do).

Result: I am a happy D owner. And I even demand Devialet to not change anything about the basic SQ.

The version of the firmware that I was testing did not have the updated "ihm_0800.hex" file. In my setup it seems to sound better than the latest official firmware release. A number of others have also confirmed that this is the case.

It seems very odd that this file could make a difference to the SQ.

So you have only 16 files (apart from the manual) ?

No I have an "ihm_0800.hex" file but it's dated 25th June, and not 22 July as per the official release.

Meanwhile we have updated three D´s and except a D800 everything worked great.

To me there is again a little improvement of SQ with 8.1.3. To me it seems as if the signals are even cleaner than before. That means that low frequencies are more accurate and therefore SAM can be dialed higher. I can use SAM up to 100% with my WA Sasha now. Before (FW 8.1.2) I adjusted SAM to only 25%....

Unfortunately there seems to be a bug with the FW on the D800 with DPM. When I switch DPD OFF the sound is absolutely LOW-Fi. I wondered what went wrong and checked all alternatives. In the moment I switched DPM ON the nice SQ showed up again....

We had no such problem on a D400 nor with my D250. Has anybody else experienced a problem like this?

Odd indeed. I am tempted to try this - replacing the 22 July one (from 8.1.3) with the 25 June one (from 8.1.2).
Hello! Newbie Jojo here.

Here's what I've learned so far from this very friendly and informative chat group.

1.  The latest FW 8.1.3 has now equalled or surpassed the famed 7.1.3 in SQ.  It is now safe and finally upgrade.  Now I can finally listen to DSD files without compromising sound quality.
2.  Use low capacity SD cards.  Max 4GB.  Use the one that came with your Devialet.  Note:  Tell me where you can find and buy 4GB cards these days.  The lowest capacity most stores have is the 8GB one.  When loading firmware or config files, do them one at a time.  Rule:  Do not load both the FW and config files at the same time.
3.  Best sound for me is when DPM is turned off.  Keep that baby always warm and ready!
4.  Turn off or disable all unused inputs.  I turned off AIR wireless WIFI - absolutely useless.  Ethernet is fine if you have a good internet service.  Mine is WEBPASS which is ultra stable and capable of over 400 Mb/s!  Lucky me!
5.  Feed your Devialet with pure and unrestrained power and you will be sonically rewarded.  I got mine plugged into an Isoclean 80A3 with 4 Nordost QV2s.  Smoooooth, liquid sound with incredible resolution!
6.  Isolate your Devialet from external and internal vibrations.  I got mine sitting on 3 Stillpoint Ultras.  I also changed my rack's 4 feet to Nordost Sort Futs.  Pay attention to these minute details to extract that last iota of sonic performance.
7.  For enjoyment, try different configurations.  I was pleasantly suprised when I used the D200 as a preamp and partnered it with my Symphonic Line RG7 MK4.  The resultant sound is magnificent!  Apparently the DEV's built-in DAC is world class and totally outshone my other fancy and expensive converter.

For the mean time, I am done fiddling and messing around.  Time to indulge myself and just listen and enjoy the luscious sounds emanating from this amazing music machine!

Happy listening,
Newbie Jojo
Some observations, the ihm_0800.hex file included in the beta version as sent to me by Devialet is also dated 25/6/2015 (the same as Guillaume's copy), secondly, ihm_0800.hex is by far the largest file in the set.

It's interesting that Guillaume and others preferred the beta version, whereas I preferred the "official" release. Although my preference for the "official" version was basically because SAM 2 worked much better, this of course may not be the case with other speakers.

Just to mention that someone (sorry, can't remember who maybe Guilllaume?) previously posted that ihm might mean 'interface homme machine'.
