are you saying the beta sounds so much better than the 8.1.3 ?

If this is the case than it must be the best sounding version so far
On my system, with the 805d, definitively yes.
I was running the beta as I had no time to install and compare the two versions. Now it's done (same config file, SAM 75%, DPM Off).
Once again I ended up back on 7.1.1, after an extended period with 8.1.3 and a lesser time with 8.1.3beta - with old and new speaker cables.

I guess the 8.1.x series just isn't for me, the treble just doesn't sound as smooth as 7.1.1 in my setup, yet at the same time still seems to have the same detail. The 8 just seems a bit more aggressive and jarring. I feel a headache coming on quite quickly. The bass is better, but I can live without that and just use a little EQ.

Unless something changes from 8.1.4 onwards, I suppose I'm here forever (or until I need any of the new features.), and judging by the fact that many people prefer 8.1.3, I very much doubt things will go there…..

Still, it does seem Le Configurateur puts out 2 SAM profiles in configs, so I can still adjust settings/inputs and keep using 7.1.1 so thats something.
Did you noticed a difference between 8.1.3 beta & 8.1.3 ?
If I find some time, may be I will try 7.1.1

I cant tell the 8.1.3's apart to be honest. They both have an 'edgy' quality to me in my setup. It just doesn't make me enjoy the sound like I do 7.1.1

As an added bonus today, lowering the bass frequency a bit on the EQ has finally started bringing the Facts in line. Wish I'd tried that ages ago! If only it was easier to adjust - like through the remote or a web GUI it would be a lot more practical…. Finally a bit of bass pumping...

(20-Aug-2015, 17:32)Confused Wrote: [ -> ]These are interesting observations, I have noticed very similar with the KEF Blade.  However, I think these might be differences between the "original" SAM and SAM V2, rather than related specifically to firmware differences.  Although the two are obviously related, as "old" SAM can only be used with 7.x.x firmware.  I can't help thinking that there is something not quite right with SAM 1 profile conversion to SAM V2.

Maybe all legacy SAM profiles need a SAM Lab update to get full benefit of SAM 2?

Yes - I wouldn't mind being there (Oxford) when they measure these speakers could be quite an interesting afternoon. I wonder how much variability there is between different speakers of the same model, for e.g my Sashas really opened up after a few months of 24/7 playback. Presumably there is some variability between the drivers themselves, I know Linn Exakt models this kind of thing by measuring each individual driver as opposed to just having an off the shelf profile for a specific speaker model. Perhaps it's best if SAM Lab comes here?!

Feedback from Devialet on this subject:  (Which suggests SAM Lab is NOT going to be the solution to my SAM V2 issues ..... Sad )

Thank you for your message.
Measurements between V1 and SAM LAB (or V2) are the same.
SAM LAB has been designed to be as accurate and reliable as the measuring laboratory equipment.
More than 230 speakers have been sammed V1 in the laboratory. All speaker profiles were moved in V2 from the original measurements, without considering the V1 profile. So there is no difference between the V2 profile of a sammed speaker in our laboratory and the same speaker with the SAM LAB.
I hope it does answer your questions.

Hi - I may have missed it on the way by, but can someone point me in the direction of a copy of the 8.1.3 Beta software?  I'm on the 8.1.3 standard release, and would agree with some of the other comments surrounding the top end being a little bright.

I'm relatively convinced 7.1.3 was the best I'd had my D200 sounding, but a little nervous about reverting - my last experience with 7.1.3 toasted my power filter board!

So, keen to try 8.1.3 Beta to see if that brings any of the magic back.

Thanks Rufus - you're a star.  I'll take it for a spin and share my thoughts.

...

From my recent experiments, the beta won't cure the top end brightness if you're finding that in the non-beta, but everyone's experience is different. To be fair I wasn't really looking for differences between the two - it was more 'them' vs 7.1.1 - but nothing stuck out as very different to my ears.
