In the the previous test with Guillaume, I understood that you felt that the TotalDac D1 server was slightly ahead of the N1A. Do you still hold the same view?

Separately, I was wondering if you have had a chance to compare the Melco with Aurender, either the X100 or N100 series.

Thanks.

I don't think there was much in it. Considering the totaldac is 3 times the price the N1A is rather good value.

I'm hoping to get my hands on either one or both models late next week for an extended demo. Rather looking forward to this.  Cool

That would make an interesting read Big Grin , especially if you have the uograded cubox-i4 quad core for the Totaldac server as the reference baseline.  Looking forward to your thoughts.

I haven't upgraded to the quad core cubox yet since I am waiting for the software for iPeng 8 to be ready, at the moment the new quad core firmware only works with MPaD, so no online streaming services yet.

Something I want to experiment with, which I didn't get a chance to do last time round, is using the Melco to feed the d1 server. In that scenario the Melco basically replaces my NAS and LAN setup. Upgrading my current NAS to a fanless QNAP with SSDs and decent power supply (which Vincent at totaldac recommends) gets me into N1A territory, price-wise.

I owned a Lumin Network Player. Don't miss it but loved the Lumin app. I've been very pleased with my N1A. I'm guessing not many here in the states have a Melco yet. Bought mine from UK dealer. I use as Raid 1. 2TB fill up fast. In fact mine is full, but rather have exactly the same make/model mirrored drives than twice the storage. Of course I have back ups on other drives also. The Lumin app is better than the other alternatives IMO, but not designed specifically for use with Melco's. Looking forward to Melco Power application whenever it becomes available.

Hi Guillaume,

after months of indecision I finally bought a D200 from Oxford Audio Consultants and I am enjoying integrating it into my system. I already have a QNAP HS-210 with SSD and was wondering what power supply upgrade you are considering?

Many thanks

I believe it was one of the Teddy Pardo ones, you'd have to check with them to find out which model would work with the QNAP.

What are you using now in place of the Lumin, and how does it compare with the Lumin?

For the Melco, I understand that MinimServer can be installed on the N1A, which would then allow the Lumin app to be used when the N1A is used as a network player.

That would be interesting, with the tricks that Melco has employed for the HDD read/write optimisation and the LAN isolation, despite them using a SMPS.

The dealer who is bringing them in is already thinking of modifying them to use an LPS.
Are those of you using the Melco connecting it via USB to the Devialet?

If you already have a large FLAC library on a server, is it best practice to copy those files to the Melco?
I use USB direct from the Melco and it's really good.
An alternative would be to connect the Melco direct to the Devialet, but use a device - MacBook, PC, whatever elsewhere on the network to run AIR and send 'through' the Melco (it acts as a network bridge to the Devialet). Unfortunately the Melco can't run AIR itself as there's no port of the software to it.

Regarding Minimserver - there's a long thread here:
http://forum.minimserver.com/showthread.php?tid=2032

If you want to run Minimserver I'd suggest posting there or contacting simoncn (developer of Minimserver & owner of the forum) via PM. I'm using Minimserver on mine and it's wonderful after Twonky (which I'm not a big fan of - no Album Artist indexing, and it rebuilds the database on power-up). Minimserver isn't fully supported yet and is beta on the Melco. The installation is a little more fiddly than it should be (but still pretty easy, and well-documented) and with luck it'll be incorporated into a future firmware on the Melco.
