A significant new firmware (including the new Player/Renderer) will be launched to coincide with the release of the new models which will also be available to existing Melco owners.
Not sure what this will bring to the party unless it's just providing the RAVENNA functionality ?

[edit] I did read elsewhere that there's a new firmware possibly due on Feb 23rd, which is the day before the Bristol Show.

Makes sense to me. You think Melco are heading in one direction developing a nice new app, then suddenly in a cloud of tyre smoke they loop around, head off in an unexpected direction, nearly crash, and then leave you thinking anything could happen next.....

They should merge with Devialet!
Now what if Devialet incorporated RAVENNA into its new streaming card...

My dealer has had the N1A Series 2 for a week plus now. Says that its a big step forward, quieter and with more details. Closer to the performance of Series 1 N1ZH.
Storage has been increased to 2 x 3TB but this could be region specific. Price has gone up too ☹️
Wrt RAVENNA functionality, that could be significant for those keen on AES67 / AoIP functionality. This was previously only available on PC/Mac platform and did not allow, for example, the Melco N1A to be used directly with the Merging NADAC as an ethernet DAC without an accompanying PC/Mac. Now, one can simplify and just use the Melco.
How useful this would be would depend on one's choice of DAC, and whether it has a RAVENNA/AES67 compliant ethernet input. Over at the head fi forum, there is a long thread about how AoIP sounds better than USB.
Not quite relevant to Devialet unless the new streamer board utilises RAVENNA / AES67 but who knows what will actually be implemented in the end

A casual look at the start of this thread shows this from two years ago from Devialet:
"Devialet have indicated that USB will be the only link between the Dialog and Expert range initially but that wired and wireless ethernet will be added later using an enhanced version of AIR. Even with USB support it would of course be possible to use a re-clocker and I guess your Totaldac would filter out any 'noise'. So: if you bought the best thing since sliced bread - the N1A - a year ago, you have what is now a significant step back.
Why do these big players treat their potential customers like idiots when other manufacturers treat them like sensible human beings?
