Hello,

I´m a Melco N1A owner since six weeks now.
I decided to buy the Melco after a Devialet show at the Hifi shop where I had bought my Devialet. The german distributor of Devialet used the Melco, so I had the first contact with the "Audio-NAS" along with my preferred amp.
Before, I played a mac mini with itunes over AIR ethernet. I always was more than content with sound quality, but with every update of the OSX the mac mini got a little bit slower and the cooperation with AIR got a little bit worse. As I said there was no degradation of sound quality, to say the truth, sound quality is getting always better since I bought my amp.
But I got a little upset of the attention the computer needed to play...updates and so on...I bet a lot of you know what I mean.
After six weeks with the Melco I have to say this is a very good way to store and to play audio files with the Devialet.
You will have your own listening session to decide, but I am very pleased.
In my ears it is sounding better. A lot. Better in all aspects, but two aspects are more remarkable: Voices are so present and holographic. The background is even more darker and more quiet.
Maybe the audio quality benefits from the absence of the computer in the audio chain. A computer certainly produces his amount of EMC troubles and is anyway not a natural born audio player.
It has things simplified again: switch the on button and after a few seconds you are ready to play. Switch the off button and you are done. USB connection is stable and never failed.
What is not so good: I operate the Melco with Linn Kinsky. This works stable, but the look is so old fashioned and possibilities are restricted.
So I am waiting for the Melco app (with great expectations).
Really great would be the integration of roon.

I wish a happy new year to all forum members!

I agree with a lot of what you say. The Kinsky app does the job, but it is very very dated.
I leave my Melco switched on all of the time just like my NAS used to be. If i turn it off I find I have to wait a few minutes before the Kinsky app captures all my music.
Even if (when, so I'm told) they do integrate Roon, I would still like some kind of control app, or a web page, for configuration, kneeling on the floor is a pain, even if I don't need to do it very often!

I agree that Kinsky feels old fashioned, I mentioned, in the Melco app thread, a way to use Jriver/Jremote which is much better though still some way behind Roon.

I hope all members have a great New Year with lots of happy listening in 2016.
Many of these companies are hardware oriented and apps seem to be low priority items. If the companies become successful the demand for product may exceed their capacity to satisfy the market and apps become even lower on the priority list. Even larger companies such as Linn take a long time to produce a good app.

Surprisingly, Auralic, Lumin and Aurender have produced satisfactory apps. All three of these have steadily improved the product (A major app update for Aurender is rumored for February) and kept the hardware line fresh.

The gorilla in the room may be Roon. The upcoming Elac streamer is supposed to have Roon embedded. I think that Melco should do the same.
Incidentally there's a new firmware out (version 2.20) for Melco with some minor changes.

Anything of interest in the update?
Not sure if it automatically updates
The update doesn't do much that I noticed. Mainly stability improvements.

If your device is connected to the Internet, you can just update using the menu on the device.
Its been great reading the posts on the Melco. I currently live in Japan, therefore i purchased the Dela which is the japan's version of the Melco. I have streaming via my Accuphase Dc-37. I am new to networking and so i am soaking up as much info i can. Ok, here is my current situation. I downloaded the Linn Kinsky App to interface with the Dela/Melco. Works perfectly fine for one song only. I developed a playlist and start from the beginning. What am i doing wrong for it not to play the album? I know i am missing something simple, but cannot figure it out. Thank you for your time.

P.S. I tried using the Audionet App versus the Linn Kinsky and had no problem. Must be isolated to the app. Any ideas?

Harris4crna. Accuphase A-70 class a amp and C-3850 preamp. Franco Serblin Ktema speakers. VPI Classic 1 TT with Simaudio 810LP phono stage and VPI SDS. Transparent Reference Speaker cable and IC. Quadraspire racks and much more.
Hi - I'm not near my Melco and can't remember exactly where it is in the settings but there's a 'mode' setting for UPNP and I think it defaults to '0' which gives the behaviour you describe (relies on the control point to control the playlist queue). It needs to be set to mode 1 in the Melco and this means the Melco will provide an Openhome-compatible queue for the playlist on the Melco itself which is accessible by control points in the network. This also means you can access/control the playlist from multiple control points or quit running a control point without interrupting tracks playing.
The setting may be under 'USB-DAC' though I could be wrong on that.

As above....the setting is indeed under USB-DAC
