Thanks for posting Philip, the interview was a very interesting listen.

I too am a little disappointed that he has not mentioned the app, plus this leads the cynic in me to suspect that if it was worth mentioning, if it was something they could be realy proud of, then he would have mentioned it. Time will tell, I believe it will be released soon anyway.

Yes thanks for the link. Got N1A and trying to get the best from it, using CP but have been using other modes.

On the Melco FB page they did mention about a week ago that beta is still running on new app and to watch this space.
From Melco FB page today :

Hi Dan, There is a common view that all the unnecessary Ethernet traffic impacts on audio quality. Melco achieves isolation from this traffic initially by having all that traffic on the LAN port and isolating the dedicated Player port. That eliminates unnecessary traffic but the Melco is still connected to the Ethernet. So in order to be able to disconnect totally from the Internet and avoid all risk of pollution and interference, we then have the Direct Mode. With this connection there is nothing attached to the LAN port and no possibility to influence the system from outside. The Network Connected Player still needs an IP address which is given by the Melco, and there are no switches or other IT devices in the system. If iPod control is required a Travel Router is simply connected to the LAN port for iPod connectivity, but still no outside influences. We hope this answers your question!
Thanks. It is interesting!
Much Melco nonsense on the Roon Community forum...

Does this actually appeal to any Melco users, a chance to have Melco sound quality with Roon interface? Or is sticking a computer 'in the chain' an absolute no no for most folk?
I'm definitely happy to run Roon on a PC if that works. I know it defeats the point of the Melco being a NAS but if it allows me to use Roon reliably (instead of Air) then great. None of the UPNP options are satisfactory after using Roon.

Or of course, Devialet could fix AIR

I'm not sure if it defeats the point of using the Melco as a NAS, you could still use the Melco as NAS storage for your music in this configuration.  Although it possibly does defeat some of the Melco design ethos behind the design of the unit as a NAS.  It would be fascinating to see if there was any discernible impact impact is SQ, for me I think there would be a small penalty to pay with respect to SQ, although the Roon guy is suggesting SQ would be improved.  All speculative of course unless Melco decide to implement, or if a very talented individual performs a 'Roon hack' on a Melco.
Firmware version 3.0 is out. New settings under USB-DAC:

Hello,
This a slightly modified version of my posting in the other thread Melco vs Aurender.
My brief history:
Almost one year ago I bought D200, later upgraded to D400 with Sonus Faber Amati Futura II speakers. streaming from Synology NAS from PC via AIR ended up with usual white noise problems. Playing via Oppo 105, digital out to D400 from NAS was much better, but in terms of SQ still not very satisfactory. Later started using an Intel NUC with WIN8, JRIVER, built in Samsung 850 SSD with all music content connected via USB (Audioquest Carbon) to D400. SQ was worse than Oppo 105D. Replacing the USB cable with AQ Diamond brought big improvement to SQ. Of course I was still not very happy. After a short demo session by comparing Aurender X100 and N1Z (SSD) , for me Melco was much better, but was too expensive for just 1TB storage. When Melco introduced N1ZH60, I became active again. Unfortunately I had no chance to have a demo and decided to order one unit during High End Munich. N1Z arrived yesterday and it's now operational via USB (Jitterbug+Diamond). Really great SQ, tight bass, excellent detail, great sound stage. I know for audiophiles or generally techno-crazy people the search never ends; but for the time being I would like to give a long break to my search and enjoy the music. Smile

Regarding FW 3.0. I was not patient enough and upgraded from 2.30 to 3.0 before I started using N1Z. The above remarks belong to N1ZH60 running with FW 3.0. I first tried to use Kinsky from my IPAD, but switched back quickly to Jriver. For me Kinsky is a strange and not a user friendly app and needs a lot of improvement.

The new hybrid controller setting allows the user to use apps like Kinsky and Jriver at the same time without configuring either 0 or 1 in the settings, but to select 0 or 1 is still possible.

My Jriver runs currently on a PC in the network, library is created in the same PC. Content is stored on Melco, where playback is via USB from Melco directly to D400. Jriver is controlled by Jremote on the IPAD. I have a few small issues on the GUI and currently trying to identify the source of the problem. These are not related to playback SQ.

Cheers
It's sounding terrific! This is the first f/w update on my Melco where I've noticed a big difference in sound quality. Perfect timing to compete with AIR 3.
I'm not too interested in the CD ripping features as I do it all on PC with dbPoweramp anyway and have my own little habits and procedures, but it's good to have.
