When I first discovered and listened to a Devialet Expert I was blown away... it seems like a true game-changer and while it seemed quite expensive for what it was, it was absolutely worth it to me. Nothing else could do what it did the way it did it. No hesitation. I jumped. If you're here, I suspect you had a similar experience.
When Roon came along I was a bit skeptical. After all, I'd been quite happy using LMS and Squeezeboxes for years. Why would I want to pay for Roon? But I was extremely curious when Roon announced support for Squeezeboxes as endpoints. So I gave the trial a shot... And BAM, another Devialet-like experience! Another big game-changer - this time not just in what I could hear, but in how I listen to and manage my music. Yes, it's a bit pricey relative to other music software, but it is so much more and has to be experienced to fully appreciated.
I still absolutely love my Expert - despite losing confidence in Devialet as a company - but my confidence and respect for Roon Labs continues to grow with each release. I am rooting for Devialet to come around and see the light, but I'm really excited about the next release of Roon that will undoubtedly take it to the next level.

Roon itself uses barely anything - it tends to do all its clever database stuff in RAM so big collections need decent memory - big in Roon terms is multiple thousands (maybe even tens of thousands) of albums.
My library size is tiny (Hardly 6-7K). Picked on to this hobby couple of years ago after long "work only" sort a break.
My question is on the 1TB SSD on NUC. We can store quite good number of album on the SSD itself than NAS. Maybe a special library which are favorites and DSD quality etc. this will help quick sourcing, SSD with no mechanical revs...

I've got about 800 or so (not sure the number in tracks) that are on my 'main' 512 SSD and leaves about 100GB space. They're mostly CD. I also have a NAS with experimental stuff, DSD, classical or things I a rarely listen to, and (to try and save the env) I just set it to come on at the weekend in case I feel in the mood, or manually fire it up as and when. I use a mac mini so getting the SSD in (and replacing it when the time comes) isn't so easy, but with a NUC I guess things are a lot easier. I'd definitely try for the SSD its fast and silent and energy efficient and they're getting cheaper- if you're leaving the NUC on anyway why add the cost/complexity of a NAS (other than as maybe a backup which was the intended function of mine).

And thats good. I would do that. Have good size SSD and move all the track/albums (
) to the SSD sitting within the NUC and be done without NAS.
Just to update things I am now trying out a QNap NAS with 8 GB memory, Celeron 2.0 GHz processor and 3 TB storage. I am running Roon on a Windows 10 VM and streaming to both a Raspberry Pi with HiFi Berry and an IQ Audio DAC as a test. All is working well so far and eagerly waiting for Roon 1.2 when I will put a Linux VM on the QNap.
will it be possible to run Linux VM on Synology as well ..?
I remember they mentioned a possibility for QNap but Synology was not mentioned..

Is that wishful thinking or did you get the impression they were definitely aiming for a NAS version in 1.2?
They said there would be a Linux version and I can put a Linux VM on the QNap, if there is a native NAS version all the better.
