Well I have spent the day trying to make this work, decided to uninstall everything and start from scratch and all of a sudden the Devialet Air option appeared in my Roon outputs! I enabled it and played a track but could not get any sound. My Ipad shows the track playing but I could not hear anything.
I closed Roon and reopened it and since then the Devialet option has never appeared again.
So I give up, with the opinion that Air is the most useless and unfriendly pieces of software I have ever used.
Luckily my Aries sounds great but it would have been nice to have got Air working. Thanks to all who offered their help and advice.

Do you have firewall enabled on your system? If yes, make sure you allow AIR to have access to the network. When playing, is the 'eyedrop' turned black indicating AIR is enabled.

I am now hooked on Roon/Tidal combination, I now have millions of tracks at my disposal, I will most likely continue after the trial. However, I am not satisfied with the SQ as I find the noise floor is very high compared to playing from a CD transport. Looking at your signature, your NUC is running the RoonServer and MM is running the RoonBridge and AIR3b. Does this combination yield a better SQ? I am thinking of buying a Mac Mini (rumored after WWDC?) to run as core, and using the iMac as a RoonBridge, controlled via the iPad.

By separating the Core from the Output (Audio Renderer), Roon says it will improved audio performance. For me, I find with this setup, AIR is more stable (especially, AIR2.1.3/Win8.1). And, gives me lots of flexibilty in placement of hardware in the network around the house.

Hi, no firewall and I cannot get the eye drop to turn black. "Disable audio streaming" is always on, my Ethernet settings show up but nothing works.
That means your Devialet Ethernet and/wifi connection are not set properly. Use Configurator to check if the LAN and wifi ports are enabled on your Devialet.

Hi there - this has come up before, the discussion of streaming v CD transport that is. I have heard on many occasions people say that high end CD transports sound better than streaming. In fact at the recent streamer day at OAC I got chatting with the dCS rep who told me that the best sound quality possible from the Vivaldi rig came from using the Vivaldi Transport.

I don't think it's as simple as just placing Roonserver and RoonBridge/AIR 3 on separate computers, although that may indeed bring some benefit. I think you need to look at the complete playback chain.

My approach is to take the view (rightly or wrongly) that everything matters. So I try and optimise everything from routers, switches to ethernet cables. As you know I also use the d1 server from Totaldac which features a very powerful reclocker and also happens to be Roon Ready. But you could easily use a microRendu or similar instead.

Oh before I forget - my experience with Tidal hasn't been great. From a SQ point of view I far prefer Qobuz but of course this isn't integrated into Roon.

By "audio performance", do you mean sound quality or just stability of streaming?    My experience of  putting AIR and RoonBridge on a separate PC did help AIR stability a good bit (although still not fully stable).   Was Roon referring specifically to AIR when they said it would improve audio performance or was that a generalized statement?

Patience is indeed a virtue! Finally cracked it (I think) it seems that Roon and Air were not starting up properly as all I did was put the respective shortcuts into the Win 10 start up folder and bingo! everything working beautifully. I had set Air to start with Windows but it obviously was not following the instruction and every time I started it manually it failed to stay on. Someone with more knowledge than me can possibly explain what was wrong but for now I am just enjoying stunning sound and if it carries on there will be an Auralic Aries for sale!
A grateful thanks to all who have offered assistance.
Welcome to the AIR Club!
