Indeed, I have it running on a Synology NAS 1812+ which has 64bit architecture, 3 GB RAM, and an Intel Atom 2700 Dual core processor running at 2.13 Ghz.

It works very well, the only performance issues I have noted so far is that searches take 3-5 seconds, and I am having issues streaming DSD128 content. Not unexpected as the system is really under spec'd to be running RoonServer.

That being said, other than the latency with searches and constraints on playing back the 2-3 albums of DSD128/DSD256 content, it works very well.

A friend running it with a slightly newer 1813+ is having no issues streaming DSD128 content.
I was planning on buying a sonicTransport to run ROON but perhaps geting a new NAS is better, less is more so to say. When I get my microRendu I will start to try that with DLNA and run it with Bubble upnp app, if it is as good as they say it is I will consider to get ROON as my controlpoint in the future.

Perhaps someone that has ROON on Synology NAS can write a small guide how to do it and what NAS to get.

Have you checked out the Roon forum? - There seems to be lots of information over there - for example,

Yes I have but sometimes it gets a bit to much to take in when so many is writing, but I think I can sort it out if I buy a new NAS.

This is the one you need. This guy has pretty much written a full installer off his own back... Plus lots of Synology specific info....

I know have read that so I now what to get but I already have a working Synology NAS but to old for ROON so I really dont now what path to choose. If I get the sonicTransport from Small Green Computer that is bit cheaper than a new NAS (DS716+) that is x64 and I can keep my current NAS and the Transport uses less energy when running 24/7.

I checked the only download link I could see in the text - the curl http address and it worked ok for me?
Anyway, I've also pointed to the main Roon howto above my text so the steps there should be more up to date and more generic than mine.

I installed my hifi berry DAC+ and I have to say it wasn't trouble free, and I have got issues with it - a buzzing on the speaker when I touch it (signal or no signal), and a volume incompatibility with Roon. Plus a few case issues. All in all not as happy as I'd hoped I'd be. The experiment continues.....

I am also considering this option. In fact I may even opt for the version with 1TB SSD which seems quite reasonable when compared to an equivalent Mac Mini offering (and I am hopeless when it comes to PCs let alone spec'ing/building a NUC). I had been considering upgrading my NAS to a fanless/SSD box so this is an intriguing proposition. I would still connect this to my NAS for additional redundancy though in the same way that Rufus has linked his Melco N1A to his NAS. I'd probably get another iFi iPower power supply too.

I will start with Bubble upnp app to control my microRendu and if it is as good as they say it is I will perhaps ither get a new NAS or a sonicTransport but a NAS is tempting to buy and install Roon as that would cansel the need for a computer to run the Roon Server.

No need for a DAC+, I am using a Digi+ and an iPower - no problems.
