What is the problem with the current DAC?

There isn't one, from a technical pov it is transparent.

From an urge to update pov it is an ideal candidate.
OTOH I am afraid that anybody who believes DAC technology is still advancing from a SQ pov shouldn't buy any of Devialet's products since they will inevitably become dissatisfied as time passes.
That's assuming it will be announced at Munich? My theory is that they have a new product but it doesn't work yet. This is so embarrassing for Devialet that they have made the dealers sign NDA's whilst the engineers are working very hard resolving the issues. Just a theory.

I was also wishing for a smaller Phantom for a future 5.0 system but when I spoke with the 2 guys from Devialet that were demoing the Phantoms at Axpona a couple of weeks ago, they said they can't make a smaller Phantom work well. They said they tried but they needed the larger volume. Take their word for whatever it is worth...

Shame but I don't need Phantom levels of bass in the kitchen (nor in a Centre speaker for 5.0) just a speaker that is smaller and fits into the spark/dialogue architecture. I can't imagine they will leave the phantom technology and patents as they are without trying the technology out in some other form....we shall see.

I believe marketing dictates we use the term 'feverishly' now.
Big Grin Big Grin
Whilst in wild speculation mode, how about a super massive Phantom?
Brilliant idea! As big as a washing machine. Able to kill birds in flight with its incredible volume.
@ Paul @ HiFi Lounge:

What record player is shown on the photo's? looks like a nice match with the 800
That's just a mockup, not a Devialet record player, but the reality is even better. Devialet has advanced their Anachronistic Double Hype (ADH) technology to create the world's first integrated phonautograph/DAC. Records were formerly hip, but are now passé. Cassettes are again popular (Madonna just doesn't sound right without the hiss) but even reel-to-reel can't match the hipster cred. of the phonautograph so Devialet has created the ultimate audio experience to go along with your single-speed bicycle and hand-ground coffee.
