(27-Jul-2016, 18:17)Damon Wrote: [ -> ]With 84 pages of posts, I don't know if I have the stamina to go back through them all, so I'll ask a question that may already have been answered; do we know, or have any hint, if the new streamer board can be installed into a non-upgraded Expert amp? Of course we don't know what the function or performance of the new streamer hardware will be, but I'd love to ditch my Sonos boxes.

It occurred to me that if I were shopping today, I doubt I would buy the D220 Pro, but would almost certainly chose the new D130 Pro. I didn't buy a D200 18 months ago and that sort of reminds me that i don't really need one now. Logically then, I'm not really an update candidate.

Thanks for any info that I've missed.

Very, very likely - not to say 100% for sure - it won't be able to install into a non-upgraded Expert.

Since the pros are currently running the existing streamer boards, it's very unlikely to be a technical impossibility - it will at least use the same connectors. There's a chance the pros have dormant technology waiting for the new board which would mean the old line would be incompatible, but since the board doesn't exist yet I'd say it's unlikely. Of course there's a chance they've left a bigger space for it in the pros, and therefore it wouldn't physically fit in the standard line. But again, why would they.... Could be more power available to the board in the pros maybe. That would make sense for more demanding hardware.

My guess is it's more likely going to be a marketing/sales decision - a 'you can only have the new streamer board in a pro or above model' could generate a few extra sales/upgrades/trade-ins...

If AIR3 truly is fixed, and there are sufficient resources devoted to keeping it current, then it's hard to see what the benefits would be. My main reason for wanting RoonReady was because AIR didn't work and seemed like it would always be flakey, so Roon would be ideal. I suppose RoonReady enabling grouped zones with the Devialet would be a selling point, but you can do that a lot of other ways so it would have to be affordable as a non-pro add-on, and sound great. We'll see I suppose.

I'm sure if you gave them three grand (uk money) but said you only wanted a 130pro back and not a 220, they'd be more than happy to oblige Big Grin
Some interesting thoughts in the last couple of pages ...

The underlying issue for me -- and perhaps for other D200 owners -- is the potential loss of second-hand value.

I know one might take the view that one ought not to worry about the cash value of one's hi-fi gear; one ought just to enjoy what one has. That's an appealing state of mind, but it doesn't work for me.

I may not intend to sell my D200 now, but I'm conscious that I don't know what the future holds. Maybe my circumstances will change sometime soon (redundancy? divorce? serious illness? God forbid!) and force me to downsize. Or maybe I might decide to switch away from Devialet, either to a different brand or to active speakers (which I am in fact thinking of doing).

So the pricing structure of the upgrades and its implications for second-hand values of non-upgraded D200s could be a real issue for me.

Having said all that, I don't feel aggrieved or resentful towards Devialet. I've hugely enjoyed owning my D200 for the last three years, and I still get a great deal of pleasure from my Phantoms, which I don't plan to sell any time soon.

Matt

A positive step from Devialet, good to see they started to hear customers
I am happy to see this for the recent owners, at my earlier posts I stated a cut off date of end April but this is much much better.
well...in the end im not impressed by the new product launch, not even a bit. all it has are better specs on paper, but it doesn't/hasn't solved all the problems and promises of the first. AIR is still not stable (yes, ive tried AIR3.0), streaming is not fulfilled, don't see volume indicator on remote...nope zilch. I really don't see me nor anyone upgrading based on empty promises e.g. Devialet OS etc, and even then how long they'll take to iron out the problems. Who the heck launches a new product without the full package?!

No mention of the same deal for a D800 purchased in 2016 upgrading to 1000?

Would you mind replying and asking for the 800 pricing for one purchased in 2016? Although i assume it will be the same as the 400 pricing provided..
The same for 120 to 220 Pro if bought in 2016 please?
Will be much appreciated.
I thought that offer was mentioned from day one
