Pim, I must try your trick! The 1000pro is connected to a pair of Venere S in our cinema at the mo, so it won't be hard to experiment.

To anyone who read Confused's post regarding temperatures, our 1000pro has settled down, now that it's had a few hundred hours of use. Phenomenal amp, can't wait to listen to the others. Do I feel my 400 is now obsolete? No. Am I tempted by what the upgrade could offer me at home, unfortunately yes...

I would be very interested to see if it works. AND how it sounds  Smile

And yes, upgrading becomes an expensive hobby.
Pim, we have a 250pro of sorts now. I tried your idea of removing the companion amp and set the output to stereo instead of mono and it's up and running. I have a couple of demos booked today, but will try and sneak upstairs and have a listen to the 250 vs Pro (it still thinks it's a 1000 but shows a stereo 250w output).

I'm still a bit sceptical they'd be able to compete though, what with not having the large power advantage given by bridged mode, plus advantages with electrical isolation.    A nice compromise in future, if Devialet could shrink the components somewhat, would be a dual mono in a single box.

+1
I was once invited to Lawrence Dickie's house for a long demo of his beautiful Gyia G2 speaker which we drove with my Devialet 250 and 2xD250 in dual mono. Surprisingly the single D250 came out best (big surprise to me but this time I was reassured by having a pro confirming my impressions): superior soundstage, transparency, bass. We double checked the DEV dual mono setup and it was correct. I had a similar experience in the past with my Wilson Sophia 2: the single 250 was in that case as good as the dual mono. I'd love to hear how big an upgrade the 250 pro is vs the 250 expert: I am staying with a single box!

Good to hear a single box D250 performed as good if not better as dual mono at that occasion. Did you remember what Sources and cables were used That time.  Tks.
I think this is the first I'd heard the comment that dual mono might not be substantially better than single box.   Interesting input as I ponder upgrading my 200 to a 220 Pro or just buying a Companion (or just leaving things as is and upgrading the content of my liquor cabinet ;-)

Source was AVM EVOLUTION 5.2 CD-PLAYER. Speaker cables were crystal cable to the best of my recollection. I don't recall the spdif cable used to link the two DEV but it was high quality material given the rest of the setup Cheers
It is a bit to early to say this, but IMHO the best update path will be after 3-4 years.

This is based on the fact that the D1000 has already pushed the limits in regards to thermal management and a redesign of the chassis will be inevitable if the next models will move up to power.

I am very close to choose this option and make a savings plan instead of upgrading my D200 to pro status...

Tks! I myself am using the  V1.5 designed by Dickie powered by le200.
