Maybe two expension stages were meant?!

For example a change of the network board on the one hand and a fully class D board upgrade on the other?!

So two return trips to Paris or the local Devialet distributor? That sounds efficient (not!).

I can't imagine there is much margin in this kind of upgrade and it is fairly resource intensive on the part of the person carrying out the upgrade.

If the network board replaces the existing, maybe it will be user-replaceable - I was offered that when mine had issues but I elected to send it back as it had other problems....

Stripping out the main board and all its heatsinks material, is no doubt a factory job though....

Maybe both pieces of the puzzle aren't available yet?

I just don't have the brand loyalty if I'm honest.

Having read your previous posts and having studied your seeming hatred of everything Devialet on this and all other forums, may I ask a simple question. Did you actually listen to a Devialet product before you bought yours, preferably at home but even at a dealer would have been a good idea. I seem to recollect that you bought it on review and heresay only.

1. Working AIR (AIR3?)
2. Built-in network streamer - configurator to configure access to network & find NAS/HDD/music?? But this will require app/software to find/play network files which devialet doesn't seem able to get right...god help us all
3. Full AIR on mobile i.e. stream from mobile phone to Devialet not only from AIR app but via any music output source - just like AIR on mac would(should)
4. Spotify connect of sorts
If the above 4 emcompasses the "upgrade" of eur$1k board, i'd say shuddup and take my money.

Why Spotify? I see this request more often here but wonder why as I assume we have bought an Expert for sound quality reasons only and the lossy quality of Spotify is far away from good sound. It is nice to just play a tune when walking around the house but for listening sessions for me its a no-go therefor I rather want them to put the improvements in something that will raise the soundquality bar even further.
Maybe prize wise. I use Qobuz. It sounds better than Spotify (and Tidal for that matter) but costs twice what Spotify would cost.

See you're using Roon too, iamwappie (and AP speakers). That would be my preferred combination with Qobuz, but it neither works with Qobuz nor Linn.

Can't say that Qobuz sounds better than Tidal for me but the difference over lossy streaming formats is too huge for serious listening. The library of Qobuz is much better for me than tidal. Also discovering music with Qobuz works better but indeed sadly Roon only supports Tidal but I keep hoping additional services will be added in the near future.

Unsubscribed today on my Qobuz account as I currently have Deezer, Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz. A bit too much. Deezer and Spotify are used on my Squeezebox just for the non serious listening.

You are right, brand loyalty is so 90s. If your Devialet doesn't satisfy you sell it and move on.

Cheers,
Bernard

Quite the contrary, without customer loyality there is eventually no brand if enough people move away, think Nokia, Blackberry and many others. Not saying Devialet is headed that way.

The way I see it, without competition there's no incentive for progress. If Devialet is what Nokia was, just imagine what the audio equivalent of the iPhone will be like.
The issue of 'brand loyalty' started with a discussion as to why someone might not want to spend 3-4k Euro for a "Mk 2" upgrade if it were made available.  For me, that would be a substantial increase in my investment in my Dev 200.   If such an upgrade were to be made available, I for one, would pause a bit before jumping.  Not saying I wouldn't do it - I'd do my homework, wait to hear the reviews, hope to hear it in my home first, and break a few piggy-banks trying to figure out how to afford it.

The heartburn for me is because over the last 10 months that I've owned my Devialet 200, Devialet-the-company has been a bit of a disappointment in their customer communication and support (or more precisely, total lack thereof).  And, no matter how awesome their products are (which they certainly are), it fosters a bit of trepidation toward investing further when the company itself is not fully meeting my expectations.   Is that a brand-loyalty issue?  Perhaps, or maybe just an expression of slight frustration.

Hey, there are many different business models out there.  Personally, I value those that are open and accessible... That readily communicate with their customers and provide insight on direction. That are responsive to inquires and prompt in addressing problems.   It just requires a customer-centric philosophy.   Hey, just imagine if Devialet would commit a few resources to participate in this forum (or one of their own)?  Think of the many forums you likely visit routinely where other companies do actively engage.   It's rapidly becoming an expectation and thus, a most notable void when not provided.

Personally, I really want to see Devialet knock a few out of the park and I'm excited to see what's in store in the upcoming announcement (there will be one, right? ;-)

I can't see any viability in Devialet proposing a €3-4k upgrade for a £5.5k Devialet 200 - presumably €7.5k in Euros.

The UK retail costs are £4k (120), £5.5k (200), £10k (400), £10k (250); and the Od'A costs £23k and the 800 is £18k. Quite a lot of that extra Od'A cost will be the cost of a small volume run and of the rose gold finish.

The cost of the innards of a Devialet 200 is probably no more than £1k. If Devialet want to replace the A and D boards and the AIR board my guess as to the offer to existing 200 owners would be a maximum of £1k - £1.25k, including labour, plus shipping. Probably a maximum £2k - £2.25k, plus shipping, for the 400. I'd guess that not all the Od'A improvements, transferable to the 800 perhaps, are feasible for the differently cased smaller models.

Furthermore, commercially, Devialet will need to judge what 120 owners are likely to be willing to spend on a upgrade. My hunch is that £400 is attractive and more that £800 (a 20% premium) is definitely unattractive.

Just my opinion.
