A while back many commentators were saying they actually preferred the Constellation Inspiration monoblocks to the Centaurs, a bargain of sorts (if you can call it thus).

Since then the Centaurs have been updated to their second incarnation. The Centaur 2s are now just under £40k each!!  Rolleyes

Reply I got from Devialet Support:

The warranty is indeed renewed.

That's great for you mate. You could have some of the cheapest  and most exclusive (black) 1000Pros around. I bet you're happy the upgrade is nowhere near the 22 grand you were quoted before. Smile

My local dealer is still saying $22k for the upgrade, so don't know what's going on - $8.8k in Europe, but $22k in Oz Huh

Spoke with the Distributor last night. They haven't even set the AUS pricing yet so not sure where the $22k came from. They saw the upgrade pricing in the same email we all got!! They are expecting to hear more from Devialet now that pricing has come out in Europe. My intuition tells me (from my chats) that the D800 upgrade to D1000 will be approx $10k, and i was told the D-Prem might be a little more than that. We can probbaly expect a 10-15% variance on the quoted Euro pricing.

Turn around time of approx 4 weeks for upgrade.

I phoned the dealer today and basically I think he's had enough of it and said for me just to contact Devialet direct, especially as he found out everyone was receiving emails from Devialet with costing. The guy was actually ok about it, but just thought it would actually be quicker for me to go direct and then if I was told to go with the dealer he would follow up.

Those figures sound right for the difference with exchange rate and having to ship Australia - France - Australia.

Enough of that, how did the event go, what did you think of the new 1000Pro, and did you get any answers to your queries (streamer board and is it free with Pro upgrade, remote app, anything about Roon, etc., etc.)

(28-Jul-2016, 09:57)Pim van Vliet Wrote: [ -> ]Wow! Constellation. Now that is some serious money. Are you saying the O d'A sounded better or the price difference between them was so high it wasn't worth it?

I am talking Constellation Inspiration Series so not crazy crazy money although yes a bit more than the O d'A.  Tongue

The O d'A was £23k and the Constellation was £29k for the two monoblocks and preamp. Of course you need to add the cost of a DAC to that too not to mention cables to connect all these boxes together.

I had the Constellation gear in my listening room for several weeks and it was pure bliss. I was seriously sad to see it go but in the end I just could not justify £50k or whatever it was. For half the price the O d'A got me very close. The 800 didn't stand a chance against that kind of company.

But it was a good education in terms of what can be achieved, sound-wise, and I'm glad I did it. There is no substitute to an extended home demo.

Guillaume

That ruined my day!
I have heard the 800 and Constellation driving Magico S5's though not at home or in the same room or for many days.

I felt the Devialet was the more transparent of the two, though that could be engineering expectation bias...

I can only agree that an extended home demo is the only way to choose.
I recall the Constellation Audio amps from the Guilford show. Not the best demo for me.... Although I was there first thing in the morning, they were cold and they do not sound their best from cold, others loved them:

I'd like to help a current Canadian 200 owner out by contributing $500 to his or her pro upgrade......... I'll just need your 200 in exchange for my 120.

I asked Devialet support this question. The answer was that non-upgraded Expert models will be supported in all future software upgrades.

I also asked whether the new streamer board could be installed in non-upgraded Expert models. As I and others suspected, the answer was: no -- though apparently this is not set in stone, as the spec of the board isn't settled yet.

I've complained to Devialet Support about the 120/200 upgrade pricing. Maybe others might like to do likewise.
