Gryphon Diablo 300 is one I would like to own  Tongue

Based on what I have been informed about the price increase for the 400 Pro, a Diablo 300 and, say, Lampizator Lite 7 or Atlantic DAC would be in the same ballpark, price wise.
Don't know about the Diablo but the Lampi is a very coloured DAC, beautifully tuned by ear colour but the very antithesis of Devialet, IMO, which is the most transparent audio electronics I have ever heard.
They may well be a similar price, but surely won't appeal to the same listener.

Another brand that produce upgrade for free ? Blush

Regardless of the sound quality improvement the upgrade will provide, it won't decrease the sound quality of our current devices.

Well you have no obligation to spend a penny on any HW upgrade you are not interested in. You just have the option to buy a brand new piece of equipment for the price of the upgrade which is just a fraction of the price of the new one. Seems very fair to me Smile

'Shall' or 'should'? I'm not certain of the meaning here. D200 owners would not get the upgrade for free- why should they?. If they upgrade, they pay the upgrade and get the bigger & better 200 pro (or whatever it becomes). D200 owners paid more and got more. I paid less and gave up some power and some input options.

I am not saying D200 owners should get free upgrade, I am saying that if eventually 120/200 will be upgraded to 200 pro, the upgrade cost for each one should be different.

If the folks at Devialet read this site, they must be having a few chuckles at the rampant speculation.

I dont think any hardware will be for free perhaps the streamerboard to those that upgraded to PRO but then I think Devialet baked in the price for the streamerboard in the upgrade price.
Software is for free that is nice but Devialet is not the only ones that do that.
I really like my Devialets and do hope the price for the upgrade is going to be resonable so it feels ok to do the upgrades and that the streamerboard gives us what we want in the future.
The software upgrades from Devialet are a very positive thing indeed. The coming launch of the hardware upgrade, though optional, does however have a direct and negative impact on the second hand value of the equipment itself. Just look at the fate of the D-Premier!

If I don't upgrade my D400 it will lose a big chunk of that important second hand value, and this is a 2-3 year old amp we're talking about that wasn't exactly cheap to start with. Devialet has started to make me feel I lose money by being an owner, and that's not very positive.

Devialet has a way of doing things like these the wrong way if you ask me. They shouldn't spread rumors and/or be secretive, that only tend to make people nervous. Instead they should let us know a) there will be an upgrade available at b) a specific date and c) a specific cost. Letting owners know that there is something big on the way but not when or how much it costs is just very counterproductive.

It was the same thing with the quirky and secretive launch of the Phantom. As I recall, that marketing campaign made a lot of us Expert owners very nervous and insecure.

But hey, let us all hope for the hardware upgrade to be cheaper than expected...

Think of Diablo users complaining that they cannot upgrade their machines to the new 300, would they leave for Devialet instead?

Not to mention there's a HK user who upgraded (added) his 300 with a DAC module for around USD6,000 saying how great a deal he got! Maybe that's how high-end audio works.
